mcs in dubstep?
don't like the MCs that work in the parties screaming "jump", "oooh yeaa", "how are you feelin'?" , " are you reaaady?"
I know they do their job raising the energy in the audience but for me, it's quite annoying and destroying the music, because they often talk toooo much...

Lion Charge records, ZamZam sounds
agree with most negative points in this thread.
biggest thing IMO is that the MC should KNOW the tune, or STFU.
fucking up drops and spitting over parts that should be spat on is very annoying

de ja vu.
hasn't this subject been battered to death several times on this forum already?
As with much in life there are those who are exemplary at what they do.. and then there are others who aren't.
Broad generalisation on any front = bait.
there are some u like and some you don't leave it at that.
Simplest solution.. u dun like them.. dun support them.
U do like them.. show them sum love.
Personally my preferences for MCs varies dance to dance, vibe to vibe.
The thing that sets great MCs apart is the ability to read a dance/vibe and suit their performance accordingly.
*2 cents*

yeye, my personall opinion on mc's in dubstep. is simply, i dont mind mc's over dubstep as long as they dont do it non stop. as long as they know when to keep their mouth shout and when to hype the crowd up. id prefer to have a host rather than an mc. like crazy d or mc farze, their pretty sick cause say farze just shouts down the mic (in a good way) and ppl get really hyped and then does abit of mcing every now and then. but its good, keeps ppl listening.

true but smallz did mostly grime beats, although I watched it like ten times already, starting at minute 208nick1811 wrote:MC's for smallz on getdarker were class
I wonder how many people got that when blacks (his artist name, no pun) raps "heads, shoulders, knees and toes, I don't care how this shit goes"

I'm a sucker for a bit of MCing, probably from my love of ragga & dancehall but there's really nothing worse than some jumped up egotistical twat who doesn't know their arse from their elbow
a prime example was at an xplicit night through in Edinburgh last year with skream & DJ hype on the bill, they had some wee guy who fancied himself as a bit of a dnb mc totally fucking up skreams set by telling us to "hold tight" and the classic fairground gypsy call of oggy oggy oggy oi oi oi to be honest i was surprised and even slightly disappointed he didn't use the killer line "Skream if you want to go faster"
when skream eventually finished up (brilliant set other than the mc) he continued with a spew of incomprehensible shit over hype
just fucking stop it!
i've been wanting to get that off my chest for ages!
on a more positive note big up to rougestar/pokes/crazy d/nomad etc you guys have got the vibe sorted!

Personally I don't want emcees saturating Dubstep.
Emcees ruined live Drum'n'Bass as far as I'm concerned and I really hope they don't do the same to Dubstep. Infact I've stopped going to DnB gigs altogether now due to emcees screaming their tits off from start to finish consistantly.
Sure a track here and there sounds fine with an emcee but that's as far as it should go in the studio and live.
That's my 2 cents.

did that really happen??^Incedant wrote:i was well hyped for the cotti set even when u cud tell there was mcs in the building but...... who the hell mcs over vocals!?! i only kept locked in the hope hed cut them down! an mc needs to know when to mc and when to shut up. roguestar knows how to spit on dubstep!
I'm not over fussed on host's as a whole, unless they hype the set up, Crazy D is the only one who can do this well IMO
Double & Foots are savage over dubstep, but the tighter the flow the better i think, as dubstep is a bit more spacious (well the halfstep anyway) and IMO there are more mistakes to be made..
It annoys me something stupid if an MC hasnt got a tight flow, it just sounds so shit, ohhh so shit...and there are even RELEASES out where the MC's flow is ABISMAL. When you think that dubstep is an off-shoot of grime, the MC should come CORRECT

Rod Azlan - one of the best in the game imo.
I'm a dubstep MC and i love MCs. but good dubstep MCs are few and far between. all about letting the tune breathe and not going on like a fucking knacker... It's not grime basically. Very early on Youngsta said to me "host it, don't go too wild, its not grime or dnb" and thats stuck with me. becuase he's right. The odd verse here and there is great because theres nothing worse than someone just shouting "dubstep" ...... "darker" over and over and over and over. But too much is just as bad as not enough. As for 2 or more MCs on a set, its fine if you get two good MCs. I love going back to back with Rod Azlan because we've got different styles but we both let it breathe while maintaining a party vibe. But its all about judging it right... I do a lot of drum n bass as well and its a completely different kind of discipline. MCing to dubstep made me a better dnb MC as well... Come to Heavyweight in Newcastle and see!
Rod Azlan and Jakes been best i've MCed with
videos of me and skream - http://www.youtube.com/aems1
aye, the MCs on getdarker the other day were fucking awful.
