anyone purchase their own pa / soundsystem
anyone purchase their own pa / soundsystem
I read the other thread and it made me think because I was planning on buying a setup at some point
I don't know where to look though for decent amps / subs / speakers / power distros / audio controllers etc
can anyone recommend me some good reasonably priced makes or post pics of your setup?

jbl's usually ok. kinda their upper end stuff though, but that still considerably cheaper than the big big good brands.
a dual 18" Turbosound sub can run you $4,300.
(and there were 8 of those when i saw caspa, plenty of bass.)
one of these

and two of these
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/EON315/
would be a solid entry level system.
but to be totally honest, if you know ANYONE with woodworking skills (insert joke here), you'd be much better off building at least the subs, save tons of money.

I would suggest working out what you really want from a system and buying good quality drivers and speakers rather than getting caught up in buying cheaper equipment which will break or just not be enough.
Hog Scoops and G subs are pretty sick, register with speakerplans and have a look on there.
PD1850's are good drivers, Turbosound are second to none really, Void are pretty top. Even the lower priced celestions in the right box can produce a good sound.

I'd bag some of these

All you'd need to do is plug in a mixer.
Alternatively, grab some designs of speaker plans and go to any cabinet maker (or insomniac on speakerplans.com forum) and get some subs built then buy the mids/tops.
I started building a small system from designs from a book printed in the 70's, only got one full range cabinet built, and thats unloaded, before my fundings ran out and I had to quit work and go to uni.
It's very costly tho and keep in mind you'll have to repair and store your rig.
Dunno how these crusty ravers afford big rigs

i'd recommend a Polish speakers by Pol-Audio.
http://polaudio.pl/en/products/cat/1
we use 2 18" bass cabinets - http://polaudio.pl/en/products/full/69-sw-118-400.html
and 2 fullrange 15" + 1" driver - http://polaudio.pl/en/products/full/39- ... 00-ak.html
prices are around 2000 zlotys per cabinet (it's about 450 euro)
it's fair enough for a venue capacity around 200 people (100-150 square meteres)
Pol-Audio makes all possible kinds of cabinets so u can choose something for every size of venue
we also use 2 Polish Jolly Roger amps but they are hard to get because they are made by some freak when u order them
they are quite similar to Peavey amps so u can check those
imho the big thing in the whole setup are good crossover and compressor/limiter - we use DBX stuff - good quality and reasonable price
good idea is to build your own cabinets and equip them with high quality speakers but it's not that simple as putting a speaker into the cabinet and adding some wires
and remember the bigger amount of shitty speakers u have to more shitty sound u get - quantity is not quality
it's better to have 4 very good cabinets than 12 shitty
be aware that cheaper cabinets by "well known" companies is just a piece of shit in plastic boxes and with a sound of a paper - speakers must be heavy - the heavier the better
