Kulture wrote:Guildford is a hole of a place in terms of culture and diversity. All the clubs are owned by the same guy who is a business man with no interest in music so all the clubs play cheese. The only places even likely to play anything are the star, platform 9 (which is closed) and the boiler room... but it is very rare and over crowded. I hate Guildford with a passion as I go uni there. The uni is cool, the town is a waste. Capitalism at it's grim and bitter height. I feel sorry for people that have to grow up round there.
On a lighter note, if you do what we did and walk about 4 hours out of guildford there's some really pretty and inspiring countryside. I recommend taking some mates and walk in one direction until you get to a little village pub, then have a meal. This is how I found enjoyment that touches deep down... Guildford is shallow... but great if your a rich girl who needs the latest designer clothes... but i aint.
Went to a few hiphop shows at the Star when I was at Surrey Uni (Jehst namely). Ugly Duckling played there one Sunday in my 2nd year (2003-4). Apart from that, totally concur. Most of the students were of the champagne variety; gossip/tan/shop/then party on a wednesday with ugly Leeroy and his endless cheese. He was always a bit shit really.

Haha, was reading through this post and a guilfest flyer came through my door. Turns out they booked rusko for guilfest, there is a first!
There was a night at Dusk about a month ago with benga and will from Chase & Status. Place filled up but apparently it was a pretty terrible vibe (i missed it).

i been to rubix, who knows?
big up Jmebag1!!
Yes yes!!
And dubble/spaniard we need you two back at this uni organising bigger n better events. dubriddim last year was defo a step in the right direction. Amnesty got to use the main part of rubix this year and they played a fair amount of (albeit poorly mixed) dubstep so hopefully nex year we can actually see some decent DJs. People will back it if you promise them they won't hear cheese.

Why dont we just get a small room, there wont be many of us.
Get lots of horrible bass bins from somewhere to fill up most of the space
& go from there. I think remix in woking is pretty small, although I have never been in.
Obvs I would be willing to help...

I'm doing Music Production at ACM at the moment. BIG waste of time. I've learnt a million times more from here and google than ACM and I cant wait to go to uni in september! I've seen ONE flyer with Cause 4 Concern on it around Guildford but nothing remotly dnb/dubstep apartfrom that

All the people in Guildford are either goths from ACM, kids wearing Jack Wills or old women with beards :s (seriously there is one).

Bacchus in Kingston has had a few dubstep nights. Braille with Orien (dub police) for example.
