One of the nice things about Serato then... you can load the program without the box and its just an audio player program, but you can set up all your crates and build overviews, organize, adjust, etc. You just cant use it to dj in any manner without the SL1.abZ wrote:
You said you didn't mind the "dongle" with Serato. It kinda bugs me with Torq because there are times I am rushing to get ready for gigs and I would like to just load up the program and stripe tracks while I am getting ready but I have to plug that fucking connective in. It is a minor inconvenience but it's still an inconvenience. Would run a crack to get around it if there where one.
I thought you could do that with Torq too. Can you with Traktor?
Ableton pings once when you start it up. Never had a problem with that either, although Ive seen it ruin someone's cracked version. It pinged home when they upgraded and then disabled their crack.Neurotik wrote:ahh in that case...its a big no from me then ..seriously, wtf is with that !?The_Dza88 wrote:Not bothered about the dongle, its being connected to the tinternet which is fuck stupid
I agree the Steinberg dongle slowing down Cubase is dumb, but the dongle for ProTools doesnt afaik. If its just verifying that the program is legit, it shouldnt slow it down unless its checking that its there every 5 minutes or something. I would imagine there's gotta be a way to optimize your system to avoid the slowdowns too, which although its a pain in the ass probably isnt such a bad thing really.
Dunno... tbh, Ill probably just upgrade to 4 and keep re:wiring to Ableton.
never used software with a dongle
but admittedly most of mine is cracked
doesnt look like too big of a deal really
hubs are cheap, and the option of an internet connection sounds pretty cool eh.
also the option to save or keep working still if shit goes wrong.. that sounds pretty neat
just means i might have to buy this one.
it looks like a quality product and ive been fooling around in reason for quite some time.
i'll check out the demo when its out, see if it suits my needs
been saving up for a macbook + logic tho
may still go with that option

alrite, ive been reading a few things online about Record, if reason5 was to implemented in the same way...
afaik, there's no decent cracked copies of cubase 4 or 5
sx3 is a number of years old now
so thats not really valid
propellerhead describe the process of replacing a dongle through them as being relatively painless. and you can still use the program to open projects if you have an internet connection while waiting for a new dongle in the post. im not sure how much it costs, but it either said or implied (i cant remember) that it wouldnt cost too much.
but apparently with p-heads dongle you can still keep working and save stuff if the dongle gets disconnected or your internet connection drops off.
so im guessing it most only need to search for a dongle when opening projects, in which case, there shouldnt be a performance hit when running the program (unlike sx3)
i dunno. most of these sound like excuses to just not buy the software, the "ignition key" doesnt sound that bad.
and itd be easy to use on multiple computers..
just move the dongle between them as they need to open projects, or have one online and one on the dongle.
so it doesnt restrict normal usuage, it is way more flexible than any of the other copy protection schemes ive heard about..
..just stops you from distributing it online to 1000's of peoples.
i can see why propellerhead are tightening their copy protection, its been basically non-existant in the past.... which has likely contributed to their user base expanding so much.
if there was no cracked copy in the first place, theres no way i ever would have used it.
now it looks like the time has come when i will have to buy it if i desire new features.
i'll make that decision depending on finances and what i think of the demo, tho from the info ive read, im leaning to a yes.
TBH, i think steinbergs copy protection is pretty tight these daystrench wrote:Dongles are a pain in the ass. They slow things down, and there a bitch to get replaced if they break or get lost. If Reason 5 has a dongle, I foresee everyone running the cracked version, even the people that purchased the program.... just like we've seen with Cubase.

i havnt used iloks, and they do sound pretty shiteScooterJack wrote:people that don't mind dongles or think they are a good idea, apparently haven't had to use one (or multiple)...
after being raped by iLoks for long enough, i'll never buy another app that uses a dongle.
have a dongle malfunction in the middle of a session and come back and say they're a good idea![]()
and, if you think there won't be a cracked version because of the dongle, you're sadly mistaken.

As KidLogic mentioned, I wouldn't be as hostile towards about them if they provided additional functionality (like external processing, etc)... but otherwise, this pretty much sums up my feelings on dongles:
Gratuitous and unneccessary.

Heheh- I didn't mean to post the picture as an excuse for alpaca pr0n...
..That pic was perfect cos it demonstrated the problem of too many peripherals and not enough ports...
Yours is... I don't know what it is man, something about the smile on that alpaca's face while plowing the mom in front of the kid is a bit creepy. Alpacas are such weird creatures... (and notice the one in the back left looking like "oh no he di'int!!!")

dongles a good idea tbh.
as much as havin a cracked copy is nice, it is illegal.
runnin out of usb ports is also long though. dongles dont work well in hubs, and if youve only got 3 ports. one will be taken up with an interface, one with a dongle and i doubt hard drives run very fast through hubs.
btw, torq doesnt work through a hub either, which is fuckin long.
