in all credit they have made some killer tunes.

nobody can deny their contribution or take that away from them. they definately hold a lot of credit for what they have done.

if they end up making pop and making money then good on them, they deserve it. their music wont be doing anything for the underground, but if they become succesfull it wont matter to them.

none whatsoever, i guarantee that nobody can give you a credible example of how this will damage "the scene" it's just they aren't avant garde enough.

see being avant-garde for the pure sake of being avant-garde can be a problem in itself. if they do what they do to their OWN standard consistently...then that's all that should matter imo. If Mr. Johnson dictates what sort of music they make then it's a problem. Or am I just stating the obvious?

It's quite simple.

1) Lowest common denominator music is popular.
2) Lowest common denominator dubstep (e.g. Chase & Status with vocals on top, which is presumably what will be coming out through Mercury) gets more people into dubstep.
3) More and more lowest common denominator dubstep gets made by people trying to emulate the popularity of C&S, thus lowering the overall quality of dubstep.
4) Cycle repeats itself until lowest common denominator dominates the genre completely.

Chase and status have merked the underground dnb scene for years and given it life at times when bate jump up was ruining it. They've been involved with dark garage, grime, hip hop, dnb, dubstep and smashed every single one of those genres to bits. Yeh fine, things are a bit much now, but you cant be hating on these two who produce substance in everything they do.

Snoop dog might have fucked up eastern jam, but before that i bet you were fingering your arse to it. go get some valid opinions - co-labs contribute to integration and forward thinking, you, clearly, do not.

and papua new guinea is a dancefloor tune albeit a combination of meat beat manifesto & dead can dance...

i also dance to venetian snares and consider his music to have changed my life...

don't get me wrong i know where you're coming from and i love a lot of jazz, classical, folk, hip-hop, reggae/ska, afrobeat etc and consider much of it to be life changing in a different way to dance music but i still would say my life has been impacted upon hugely by electronic music..

i'm saying the disposable dancefloor fodder like c&s pendulum clipz etc stuff that don't get me wrong i enjoy, but like i've stated before doesn't really have a shelflife and would hardly consider to be life affirming or changing
i mean shit even i write some shit like that, just i consider dance records to be just for that and wouldn't classify a lot of the stuff you listed as that
and yea electronic music has changed my life a great deal just not dancefloor stuff
