Pressing vinyl...where to start?
I'm interesting in pressing vinyl. Who presses the best bass music? Is it possible to get down to $2 a copy? I searched a bit for a related thread, but didn't see anything. Thanks!

Plump,
Google north american vinyl pressing. If you are looking to go cheap, you want to look here
http://www.urpressing.com/specials.php
But be very, very aware that the less money you spend, the worse your pressing will be.

Word - I was just on the URP site - it's got a nice quote generator. It seems that you have to hit press 1K copies to really hit the price point of $2 a copy....that's what I'd heard as well.
So, it seems that the mastering and lacquer creation process are probably the most important for bass music. It may make more sense to have this done by a seasoned veteran from the UK perhaps and then have that actually pressing done stateside. (where it will be distributed)
Then again, there's also 50,000 djs in the UK. It might be best to just p&d there, and ship back the remaining copies.
Who are the mastering greats of drum and bass and dubstep?

EZ bro
Speak to this guy ( Jtransition )
He's a mastering enginer with close links to cutting/pressing/distribution companies.
Just send a PM to him asking him anything you need to know.
He's a nice guy as well.
I feel the need to promote his work.
Also, Transition can (ibeleive) offer vinyl pressing & dubplates if that takes ya fancy @ a cheap price. They are known worldwide as THE cutting plant of DnB/Dubstep
Just speak to transition bro, they'll sort you out

after you press them, how would you go about selling them? would you just email record shops asking if they want to buy any or something like that?

I'm actually strictly pressing for merch to sell on my own website and at my shows and to have something to send to promoters and djs. I have great digital distribution and see vinyl more as a special thing...not very interested in a real distro deal, but if I were, I'd go with a US distro like Groovedis or another US distributor.
