Yes there is a massive difference to being published by a major and being signed to the actual label.spencerTron wrote:i don't understand why some people are so bothered about C+S on mercury ..and not at all fussed that EMI published 'Skream!' in 2006 or is there a massive difference in the involvement?

glitch, the grudge (even though it's a collab) - noisia/phace/neuro at that moment

also not saying i don't dig their tunes, just saying there is never really anything new or unique about em
Yeah I'm not denying they're good tunes, I'm just saying, like Deadly habit has, that everything they've done, there's a ton of other stuff thats just like it, albeit Chase and Status mainly do it a bit better.Contra88 wrote:What about tracks like Wizard Killa, Rowdy Time, Glitch, The Grudge, & Stand Off? My point is that when, for example, Pendulum did Another Planet, it was musically (although dividing opinion) a very ambitious and original piece of music, as well as having high production standard, so for me their breakthrough was less of a surprise. Vault was the first time someone used a triplet fill at the beginning of a phrase, as another example. But with C&S, I've never heard anything in a tune and thought, wow, that'sa really new idea. I actually like quite a lot of their tunes so I'm not being negative really, just don't think they're particularly exciting musically.

No it isn't, sorry, but no.
no.
Fair play to them though - they'll carry the torch better than Pendulum do!
Nice shot in the arm for the Ram lads too, i'd imagine...

ahh it was bound to happen, all in all thats a good deal for all involved dont forget that RAM will get a healthy pay out from this..
fair enuff they may end making whack music but anyone who produced some fat tracks like they did should be allowed access to the best equipment money has to buy.
lets hope they dont go to pendulum

a lot of truth of course and it isn't easy but i think when someone people really like make it they are equally congratulatory as they would be nasty about music they don't like..emalkay wrote:I don't post on here as often as I should and I don't know these guys on a personal level but I feel I should say somethin here amongst all the hate threads because I think it's pretty unbalanced.
Anybody who works hard for so long, believes in themselves, and then manages to accomplish something like this should earn nothing but respect, whatever you personally think of their music.
There are similar artists who have done the same thing in the past and I've not liked their music one bit but at the same time I give props to them because they stuck at it, grafted it out, and obviously there were plenty of people out there loving their music and bought it.
Don't forget C & S have been around from day, I used to rinse Wise-Up back when that one will always be a percy of mine, it's taken them years to achieve this.
So yea hate on their music all you want but don't hate on their success, it makes you look jealous and synical. Anyone to rise up from a tough music scene like this don't get there fucking around or by one hit wonders.
Just have a little bit of respect.
If bats in the belfry or mecha got signed to a major do you really think people would hate on it?

my feelings exactly. they are the epitome of bandwagon jumpers. they make some nice tunes, but its always tagging along and a lack of diversity, sticking to presets for a certain timethat's why they've consistently changed their style to the big thing of the moment and churned out a bunch of generic copycatish tunes over the years and nothing really unique or a sound of their own?
don't get me wrong they're good engineers and i enjoy a couple of their tunes, but they're not doing anything innovative or special to me.
hope they make bare money and get gold toilets. i would.

they jumped on the Dubstep bandwagon and sold a shitload of records and then proceeded to cash in on their bandwagon jump. No respect.

good luck to them. I really don't understand all the hate against C&S. I wouldn't say their album is among my faves but a lot of other stuff ain't either, so who cares really? What about The Prodigy? I'd consider them more commercial/mainstream than Pendulum or C&S will probably ever become but Prodigy is generally respected and not hated on. If you don't like what they're putting out, pay no more attention to it.
I am however surprised to read that 50K sold units are considered a lot these days.

prodigy came out of early rave, a scene which most of us weren't old enough to be a part of. not our problem.

it's hard to ignore commercial music if you have ears. i try my best, i avoid commercial nightclubs like the plague, don't watch mtv or listen to the radio, and yet i always seem to be up to date on the latest chart bollocks. how, i don't know, but it will be impossible not to pay attention to whatever jizz c&s release on universal.
