Just need a quick walk through on how to get the main sound going, then want to experiment from there.
liking people like Break, Survival, Spectrasoul, Data, Icicle et al.
http://www.myspace.com/spectrasoul
Like the hi hats in the main part of the ramadanman refix.. and all other tunes really have that same kinda sound where it sounds like they are really.. erm rolling? Am i right in thinking its a combination of two hi hats?
Sorry it's probably really simple i just can't get my head round it.
starting my music theory in a few months and getting a sound card and converting the spare bedroom into a studio so I should get better after that, for the moment I still wanna make crappy tunes for fun

Harsh
what a quick search over on the grid will bring something up in a matter of seconds
it's a matter of creating a rolling pattern like a live drummer would with open and closed hats

How would one suggest going about using breaks in reason, i think this may be the problem, weather i'm chopping them up, or usuing pre chopped breaks in the dr.rex it all sounds very quantized.. would you suggest using the nxxt and then using my midi keyboard to program the slices?

for the most part they are going to be quantized or you could freeform program them for a more human touch
the trick is like i said to think like a drummer which means different velocities on the hats and open and closed hits etc
just listen to some of those classic funk breaks then listen to a dnb track that uses them or just a regular old 2 step pattern shit and break it down by ear and mess around
will be much more rewarding and better for your learning in the long run

Don't get me wrong, i love dnb, but aren't you better off asking this on dogz on acid? This is the DUBSTEP forum...

If you have Reason 4 you can put your parts into the ReGroove mixer and mess with the slide & shuffle...or you could use the nnxt to put the slices in like you said..

just made this quickly, what do ya think?
The break was already sped up to 176 so i slowed it down to 172 and just played about, also added some congas and a ride separately.
there is the normal standard pattern for 16 bars after the drop then it switches to something a tad more complex
oh and i find here a much friendlier place then doa on the whole. And tbh the question was to help with both DNB and Breakstep productions.
