i aint a fan of the high pitched noises Caspa uses on alot of his tracks but some of the past tracks he has made have been tight

i once bumped into him not knowing who he was and asked his mate for a spare cigarette (cheeky i know) - Caspa happily sorted me out

and for that, he could release an hour long track of him playing the banjo over the vocals of an alan bennet monologue and he'd still be a badman

llllllllarge up caspa

If you joined 14-15 months ago, why did you label yourself from Brooklyn, and not East London, as you had been living in East London for 3-4 months prior to that?

And even if you are from East London, I question the number of Dubstep nights geared towards primarily students you've been to.

Yeah, I was slightly confused when I read this. Every time I've seen either of those 2 it's not exactly been a wobbler with kids having it large event.

Simon Reynolds = ignorant knob jockey

Post by duderonomy » Thu Jun 04, 2009 2:47 pm

I don't like Caspa's music, and perhaps Caspa has reacted defensively to Simon Reynolds' article... but probably with good reason. Simon Reynolds is a cock with history of writing articles on subjects he is completely ignorant on.
For a good example, read THIS as some evidence of the man's urge to comment before he's done any homework. Proper tool, he gets an F- for FAIL.

But we've reached a stage now where we seem to be having a discussion about a discussion over an article that discusses how much discussion there was about someone's album, that album was itself called Everybody's Talking, Nobody's Listening... classic.
Thats a jokes point, fair play

I would stop ur arguing b4 u make ur self look silly mate, mechabot has done alot more for uk dance music then u think, and what has student geared dubstep nights got to do within the grand scheme of things? also i wouldn't rule out the US for dubstep there's so much popping off there its ridiculous and you are still able to draw comparisons to the UK nights.

I haven't got my fingers in my ears, I know there's alot of music coming from the US. And regardless of Mechabots status, he still is inconsistent with his location, that's all.

My point is that the experience of going to FWD>>, DMZ, Subloaded, Dubloaded, Sub Dub, or HENCH is drastically different to [Instert generic name here] which has "DUBSTEP HIP HOP GRIME DNB FUNKY HOUSE GARAGE MASHUP BASHMENT!!!" on the flyer, and every other dubstep tune dropped is either Caspa, Rusko or Benga.

I am not arguing that those artists are inherently bad, or represent anything bad, I am arguing that the nights where their music is dropped are just... they remind me of political slogans printed on Tshirts made in Bangladesh. It's like it's been repackaged and branded to be sold as a label to put on a flyer, with the generic wobble as the sound to accompany it.

It's just not like the sound system and 'selecta' I'm used to.

Me God damn it!

I want some thing to complain about.

It doesn't matter at all, really, as long as people are enjoying music.
The only reason I get annoyed is that loads of my friends exclusively like Caspa, Rusko, Skream and Benga, and refuse to listen to anything else, because it has no wobble, or isn't 'large' enough.

I'd be careful about what your saying here about Skream and Benga...

I dont seem to hear any "wobble" in midnight request line" or for that matter nearly all of skreams work. And benga....wobble?I'm slightly confused as to what you describe as "wobble"?

Ok, although i really don't understand what the deal is with pointing out a persons location inconsistencies.

Fair enough, then find nights that you can appreciate, you cant blame the artists for havin a target audience, thats what any musician/artist is after, the rest is up to agents, punters and promoters, when did you come into the scene? were you around when there was only 30 people goin to fwd week in week out? do you know every facet of this industry?

Its easy to find suitable nights to go too, but even easier to moan about the state of affairs within the scene. Your entitled to feel the way you do, but rather then get annoyed surely the logical thing to do would be to find an alternative that agrees with you.

This isn't about what I say and think, this is about what other people who's only knowledge or involvement with dubstep are those artists.

And notice the word "or".
