Alright, so I know that this isn't dubstep in the slightest sense, but I'm still pretty intrigued by this synth sound.

At about 1:21, 1:44, etc.

To me it sounds like a combination of squares with some chorus and slight distortion thrown on, but I really don't know.

I like that full sound that it produces though.

Thanks for making this thread Futures.

There is a bass sound that I heard that I have been wondering about.

Unfortunately, I cannot find the bassline I am wondering about outside the mix I found it in. I hope someone is willing to download it to help me out. It is a good mix.

The sound I am wondering about is the the ringing faux(?) bass that comes in around 14:50, peeking in and out around the sub-bassline.

I will not rest until I have mastered this sound! I know the sound I am after is not a real bass line, but I was blown away at the way it was used in this particular case. Your guys' help is greatly appreciated.

How do you get that Eurobeat lead synth sound? Should be simple, but every time I try it sounds really thin and flat.

Euro leads utilise 'superwaves', which are essentially loads of saw waves slightly detuned from one another.

You'll need a synth with at least six oscillators, or 3 synths with two oscillators each stacked together.

Set the oscillator shape to sawtooth on all the oscillators. Detune the oscillators by the following amount of cents. (Each octave is divided into 12 semitones, each semi tone is divided into 100 cents).

Osc 1 - nothing
Osc 2 - 2 cents
Osc 3 - 4 cents
Osc 4 - 8 cents
Osc 5 - 16 cents
Osc 6 - 32 cents

A great trick for this kind of sound is to add a tempo synched delay unit as an insert, with the delay time set to 1. set the dry/wet very low, so the echo is only just audible.

you may also wish to add light amounts of chorus or reverb, possibly as send effects.

If the above method fails you, try using pulse width modulation on sawtooth waves (although not all synths support this). this will give you the fatter wider sound your after.

Ask Deadly Habit, he's pretty good at this style

take a look at custom waveforms or reshaping things like sawtooths/squares so they have more digital or fm-esque sound
layer up your oscs semitone or octaves apart to thicken it up
fine tuning will give it some beating sound
also sounds like there is a phaser on it to add some movement
then default modulate a low pass filter over the top to taste via lfo or hand drawn or whatever you want

There are two parts to this effect. The first part involves creating the 'second' 'echoed' version of the sound. The second part is to achieve that lovely 'diffused' sound.

For step one, simply create a delay unit as a send effect. Set the dry/wet to 100% wet so that you get a full volume duplicate of the original cymbal sound. You will need to set the delay time according to your song tempo and general tastes.

The next step is to achieve the 'diffused' sound. Pass the delay through a reverb so you can achieve that 'spread' sound on the delayed version of the cymbal. I'd set the dry/wet on the reverb fairly low, but experiment to find that sweet spot.

Program your delay with a large reverb size, high amount of diffusion and very short decay time. You may want some damping on this, so use a lowpass filter (or the reverb units damping controls) to filter out some of the highest frequencies from the reverb sound.

If your reverb has a 'reverse' algorthm, use it. I'd say that this sound relies heavily on a reversed copy of the original cymbal creating that 'sucking up'/'swooshing out' sound.

Other tips to try out:

Pass you cymbals through an overall reverb, and maybe some light chorussing effect too.

Make a copy of your cymbal sample and reverse it in an audio editor. Program it so the end of the reversed sample falls at the same time as the start of the normal sample.

Mess with the velocity of your reversed sample.

First time I listened to this in it's entirety I was tripping BALLS.

@2:53 = an actual guitar (most probably some kind of 80's metal guitar) with shitloads of distortion and compression with some gentle chorus. Double tracked.

4:09 That's a harpsichord isn't it? Either that, or it's an acoustic 12 string playing fifths with some processing. And a harpsichord.

I believe keytars may be involved also.
