pudney112 wrote:hey guys im new to dubstep. ive been a house and techno producer for about 5 years and went to a rave last week and saw rusko and chase n status (yes i know there mainly d'n'b but saxon is alright) and fell in love with the whole dubstep thing.
At least it wasn't

"hai guyz I listen to that new caspa and rusko albums and it made me fink, dubstep isnt soo bad after all lol :) i woz wonderin what programs should i download to mak sounds like caspa and rusko?"

edit: I went off track making jokes again, I would be interested in a decent subwoofer for monitoring, room aint really treated but because of the shape parallel walls aint an issue, I also have a fuck loada sofas everywhere and a bed directly behind my listening position
well if rusko aint so good tell me where i should be looking then. like i said im new to the genre. i could tell you more than you ever needed to know about house and minimal techno just i know absolutley nothing about dubstep
Bit off topic but just a few people to check out which will give you a better idea of the scene:
Mala & Coki (Digital Mystikz)
Benga
EmalKay
Skream
Burial
Loefah

And if you wanna dig a little deeper theres people like
Headhunter (almost techno type stuff)
Synkro
Datsik
Koan Sound
16bit

Yea checking out these guys is probably a good place to start, tons of different flavours all over the place though and as mentioned, Caspa & Rusko are just the tip of a VERY deep iceberg :)
Out Now:
DD005 - Retrospect
MRS029 - Connected/Lovin' You
DAR010 - Santogold - Shove It (remix) 12"
SET003 - Bob Marley - Is This Love (remix) 12"
Echodub Loves Volume 2 - White Room
FTW Records Digital - Panic Room
FTW Free Compilation - Get Up (a.k.a Symphony)

I've also been considering a sub. I've got a pair of wharfedale diamond 8.1s, that only go down to 55Hz and I know most dubstep goes down to 30-35Hz, so surely I'm missing out? Is it really not worth buying a sub if your room isn't acoustically treated?

welcome to the scene man.

as has been mentioned, you have effectively done the same as wandering into a house forum and gone "OMG I just heard deadmau5, this house malarkey is great!11"

- but fuck it, we've all got to start somewhere! have fun :D (and don't forget to read the stickied threads at the top there ;) )
