Has anybody had Event turnout problems????

We started our first night. We had great promotion, solid sound, good location, Great DJ's, upfront tunes, but we had a low turn out.

Any suggestions keeping A NEW Dubstep/D & B night running long. We are on the Deeper side of the sounds. But that shouldn't matter. I can play a few wobblers from time to time.

PLEASE HELP US!

I would suggest to get alot of people involved, promotion, DJ's, dancers, etc., get good dj's, try doing a dubstep/drum n bass party.

Your city is similar to Albuquerque and we have a nice little crew of people but we have to combined dusbtep and jungle events. You can also promote to the hip hop heads. We even invite GOOD hip hop MC's to come spit over the sets. Maybe twice a month is too often...maybe try a monthly at first then if it gets poppin, change to bi weekly.

But really it's all about getting people involved, make them feel a part of the scene. also getting a headliner can really help your nights.

Funny thing! we did everything you said (except the dancers part). we invited hip hop headz, got great MC, and did a split/dubstep/ d&b thing. we made 1,000 fliers, did posters, too. a lot of people came to our website http://www.myspace.com/soulfunktionclub and said they would come. But when we did it last night only 30 came out. We have a 150 dubstep fans right here in Phoenix. I've seen them at THe Blunt Club. There's like 5-6 dj's/producers here, but I guess they were ttoo busy to support it. We had a great Sound set up, and the best in tune selection. We even personally invited alot of headz, but wTF? kinda disapointing. We'll keep on keeping on.

SOUL FUNKTION won't die!!!!

We have got love & support from Joe Nice, Mala, Synkro, Intention & Rare dynamic, Vista, and many others in the dubstep worldwide community, but Phoenix seems to be a lil' weird. Even close DJ friends weren;t there.

Just me venting.

Why do you think the Blunt Club had so many heads? Have you tried to collab with other promoters?

and above all PERSISTANCE.

Shit, we have to do FREE internationals to get packed out nights (for dnb that is) in order to promtoe well you've got to be consistant in quality, and persistant offering good value for money.

Can't just do a random flyer and expect the cash to come flying in.

The FWD's and Dubwars of the world did not start out with a line around the block.

Be persistent and build a reputation, online response is not always a reliable metric. Hopefully your city supports.

been to a couple Dubwars that were bare empty back in like 2006ish, but it was the venue... sometimes it's too tight to breath. crowds come and go even for the bigger nights sometimes. you're building a scene in your area so most likely 30 heads is all you will get. do it on a monthly basis and try and double that the next time, double that the next time, etc... start in a smaller venue so the space feels tighter and the sound is more prominent... that shit matters when you live in a town where most people have no idea what Dubstep is or is about.

But build it up gradually... they'll come around. But like you said, you're geared toward more chilled out sounds... I like that stuff, but a lot of people don't. You have to realize that people want to go out and dance. That doesn't mean you have to play wobblers, but real good DJ's have a bit of everything in case the crowd isn't feelin it as well... what is important isn't so much that you had only 30 people, but whether or not those 30 people will come back, and whether they will bring a friend next time.

i've seen the beginnings like this for many nights down here

its what its always like at the start isnt it? the ones that've been there will tell their friends that it was good (if it indeed was) and more will come next time. many people are afraid of newcomers its just extinctional fear of changes or something

With this kind of night I think you gotta start small....get all the DJ's to get all their friends down..and fill it with your mates for the first time and try and grow from there.

start off with little mess ups between your mates, build up a crew, your group will attract more members etc. get a better flyer too!

also start a facebook group and invite as many ppl as you can. this is were i recieve most of the invites to events i attend!

This is well important, especially if you live in a particularly student/younger area, cos even if people aren't hugely enticed by your music, EVERYONE likes getting pissup cheap. If you just draw people in with that, and then play consistently good music, people will notice, and tell people that the music was good, which will attract more people.

yes, if that was your flyer, i wouldn't step 100 yards anywhere near the place on principle. the design and artistic direction of your brand is important - it is often a good indicator for a good/shit night (though by no means the only one I may add)

get decent drink offers, a solid lineup (with well known local djs or preferably bigger international ones if you can afford it) and ensure your promotional material is reaching the right people. never, ever go on internet/facebook groups as an indicator for how many people you should expect on the actual night - it rarely happens.

its not like the dmz flyers are anything special tho..

and I've seen plenty of lame events that had hipster graphic design style flyers, edgy fonts and all else.

anyone saying they wouldn't go to a night on the principle of the flyer design seems like a right knob
