I agree with you, a real spine tingler ;)

I haven't sat down to deconstruct it yet, but in the mean time, maybe take a gander at the contents of this thread ---> http://www.rolldabeats.com/forum/index. ... 38958&st=0

Don't make fun
Euro leads utilise 'superwaves', which are essentially loads of saw waves slightly detuned from one another.

You'll need a synth with at least six oscillators, or 3 synths with two oscillators each stacked together.

Set the oscillator shape to sawtooth on all the oscillators. Detune the oscillators by the following amount of cents. (Each octave is divided into 12 semitones, each semi tone is divided into 100 cents).

Osc 1 - nothing
Osc 2 - 2 cents
Osc 3 - 4 cents
Osc 4 - 8 cents
Osc 5 - 16 cents
Osc 6 - 32 cents

A great trick for this kind of sound is to add a tempo synched delay unit as an insert, with the delay time set to 1. set the dry/wet very low, so the echo is only just audible.

you may also wish to add light amounts of chorus or reverb, possibly as send effects.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If the above method fails you, try using pulse width modulation on sawtooth waves (although not all synths support this). this will give you the fatter wider sound your after.
Thany you! Finally, eurostep will be a reality! :)

I would be quite interested in hearing your thoughts on the main synth used in Royksopps Eple

U kno the one. I've had thoughts, it seems like a lot of resampling with filter sweeps on the delays, but its more complex than that.

...It's a bell sample taken off the theme to a documentary about out of body experiences shown on TV in the '93 by Andy C and his mate Ant Miles who made up Origin Unknown. It was put on a sampler and ran through an Arpeggiator. The vocal samples in the song were also from the same television program and the majority of the samples (including the break) were taken off a Computer Music Sample CD that was out at the time.

I did a dubstep remix off it once with a mate which never got finished. I've still got the samples if you want to do a remix or something Legendary since you like the track so much?

hmmm, not sure I agree 100% with ur police work there

I think it sounds like several lines of the same sound, layered, with the glide time being changed, or maybe just simple old pitchbend. You mean the lead synth yeah? not the gated synth?

They all sound suspiciously like the 'Brutal Electro' patch from NI Massive......

The following links will be useful for learning about the 'Brutal Electro' sound...

http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=45366&start=0

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you still insist on inflicting pain, read on.

1> Take a complex waveform, (one that isn't sine/triange/saw/pulse/square)
2> Create a waveshaper on your signal path as an insert effect and get shabby.
3> Pass the the audio through a distortion unit, also set as an insert effect. Experiment to taste.
4> Clean the blood from your ears/stab yourself/your nan/small puppies........

Another variation on this theme has been beautifully summarised by Deadly Habit.
Deadly Habit wrote: Try reshaping existing waveforms like sawtooths/squares so they have a more digital or fm-esque sound. (Use a waveshaper, ring modulator or bit crusher to do this).

Layer your oscillators, either several semitones or several octaves apart to thicken things up. Fine tune the distance between the top and bottom notes played by your oscillators. This will produce a beating (wobble) effect.

Possibly use subtle amounts of Frequency Modulation (FM) between your oscillators.

Phasers, chorusses and flangers can be used to add some movement to your patch.

As per usual, modulate a low pass & notch filter over the entire sound via lfo or hand drawn automation etc
Edited for clarity.

particularly the one at 1:01
then at 1:30 - can that even be made using a synth - or is it a sample of a lion/fuck off dinosaur ???

that sure does sound like a jurassic park sample

the question you should be asking is

how did the jurassic park guy make that sound? tuned down lion roars?
