i'm trying to think back that far....
i don't necessarily know if i can remember exactly which....De La Soul (Me Myself and I and Saturday) had to be in the very beginning. Leaders of the New School at the very beginning. Jungle Bros at the very beginning. Tribe around that "Left My Waller in El Segundo" release. But which ones? Err.....
Funny enough tho I had that Ghetto Boys mind is playing tricks on me single until just a few years ago. And I still have a double sided cassette tape with Digable Planets Rebirth of Slick on one side, and that first Arrested Development album on the second side. That Digable Planets is still one of my all time favs and there is this absolutely beautiful Arrested Development song....Natural....that still rocks my socks.
Yeah I'm old hehehe.

ok, so i grew up this country ass white kid on a dirt road...
when i was about 10 i found KRS-One: Squash All Beef on the side of said dirt road, unscratched. That was my first taste of hiphop. I thought it was an album about hamburgers. nah, seriously. Later on, same road, i found Sublime: Self-Titled...which was my first taste of punk/ska. I owe a lot to that road!
The first hiphop i purchased tho?
Space Jam Soundtrack at age 12
had to get mom's permission you know!
and that Monstar's Anthem was the fuckin ILL shit....mwuahahahaha

It was a tad underrated, but up to that point the two albums they released before that one were classics, this one was long anticipated, and when it dropped was just too anti climaticThe Acid Never Lies wrote:
Underrated imo...
Although it wasn't 'purchased' per se the first hip hop album I owned was the Slim Shady LP.
This thread reveals a lot about our relative ages eh?
