RISE Against Racism Festival
RISE Against Racism Festival
Safe people,
Rise festival was a London event set up by the TUC in 1996 as a music event to promote anti-racism after the murder of Stephen Lawrence.
They’ve had huge bands playing, for free, to promote the message of anti-racism and unity of youth in Finsbury Park. Bands like Asian Dub Foundation, Chumbawumba, Fun-Da-Mental, Luciano, Public Enemy, Run DMC, Jimmy Cliff and De La Soul have promoted the message of black and white unity.
Boris Johnson, elected to Mayor of London in 2008 removed the anti-racist message of the event, leading to Unite and Unison trade unions withdrawing their funding. They’ve said that they’re happy to sponsor it if the festival remains a free, anti-racist event.
This is proper bollocks, especially at a time when the fascist BNP is upping its game, getting elected into Europe. In areas that the BNP has been campaigning the rise in racist attacks has heavily grown.
The dubstep family has been as diverse as the genre that we all love, and I think it should stay that way.
I’m asking people take two seconds out of their time to sign the petition at http://www.uprise.org.uk/ calling for Boris to recognize how important the festival is. If people know any producers, DJ’s or bands that would be interested in pushing this there’s details on the website.
Big up yourselves!

Political point-scoring from the unions. It's still going to be free, they just want to make out like Johnson's a Tory racist. If a Labour mayor had decided to make a priority of cultural diversity over anti-racism the unions would have no problem with it.tr0tsky wrote:Boris Johnson, elected to Mayor of London in 2008 removed the anti-racist message of the event, leading to Unite and Unison trade unions withdrawing their funding. Well actually, Boris Johnson is a racist.dubstee wrote: Political point-scoring from the unions. It's still going to be free, they just want to make out like Johnson's a Tory racist. This is a man who:
-Refers to black people as ‘picaninnies’ and ‘with watermelon smiles’
- Calls the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry ‘Orwellian’
-Believes in South Africa there is the ‘majority tyranny of black rule.’
- Said that Africans were interested only in ‘instant carbohydrate gratification’
- Believes Chinese culture is merely imitative
- And who condemned Labour’s ‘appalling agenda’ of ‘the teaching of
homosexuality in schools’ in Parliament.
I'm not going to get into the debate with you on the ins and outs of the elitist Tory prick. Most other people on here will understand how important the issue is without having to revert to baseless allegations of political point-scoring.

As opposed to the previous mayor who made jokes about concentration camp guards to a jewish journalist and openly associated himself with some of the biggest relious bigots on the planet, yet still had his election campaign funded by the unions in question.tr0tsky wrote:Well actually, Boris Johnson is a racist.dubstee wrote: Political point-scoring from the unions. Not sure what your homosexuality point has to do with racism anyway.
Big up.hanuman wrote:Signed. Very worthy cause.
Will add it to the ole twitter as well.

Shows what kind of person we're talking about. His attitude towards homosexuality is indicative of how reactionary the arsehole is. His attitudes belong to the dustbin of history.
I've got more important things to do than debate with someone about how important an anti-racist free-festival is.
You would have thought most decent people would have no problem with the concept.
