Yep, got one of those for gigs and it's a very good little interface for the money.

That said, it's no RME *shakes head*

iwould snap up that rme if i didnt have a laptop... and an external one if i had enough money.

Heres a question for you more technically minded peeps, i havnt seen it asked here so i thought i would just shoot. (Link me if it has been asked please :D) Whats the deal with the RICOH cards, ive been looking around on the interweb and seems people have had problems. But i need some clarification. What is better ricoh with firewire, or just USB 2.0. (simple answer would be nice but if there isnt one then be as in depth as needed)

May as well put my cards on the table as my eyes are bleeding from looking at interfaces online

I need a new interface Firewire is faster... but as ive said my ricoh card MAY be a problem (cant upgrade laptop) so usb is fine as well. Need 8 outputs so i can assign seperate channels so an analog mixer and add Bus effects on the mixer (crazy kick drum rolls and such at random parts of a live set) Low latency would be nice but i could allways put everything into audio and do no live automation although that would be fun, and can sacrifice a few outputs if there are reliablity/stability issues with multiple output cards at this price.

I have £500

Any advice which could save my brain would be brilliant

thankyou fellow steppas!
:P

Well in the end I opted for an Edirol UA-25EX and a M-Audio Oxygen 8V2. Cost me £250 altogether.

toneport ux2. does the job. has mic inputs (phantom power), active and passive guitar inputs, monitor and headphone outs. and a vu meter.

i use a fastrack pro w/ my white macbook for live sets (not a big fan of un-racking my metric halo ;) ).

tablas go into ins 1&2, monitor thru outs 1&2, 3&4 go to the board. 3 ms of latency at MOST. no problems w/ this setup live so far, from NYC to the south to boston to california.

so...

all i can guess is that it's an incompatibility thing w/ the various pc os's. which is not a surprise, given the massive fail of vista.

Yes like it has been said before, don't buy the FastTrack Pro!
Every time I turned the light in the toilette on I had to restart my MacBook!
No Joke! It was 100% positive correlated R=1.0.

So now I'm just using the MacBook, and it works perfect.
