I might be getting paid for them soon. I just recently did a song for a indie movie that's coming out next week. The producer/actor of the movie liked my tunes so much that he wants me to do the entire soundtrack to his next film, which is a documentary about the Iraq War.

There are different ways of getting paid for your tunes.
the first is that you release it, (mp3 dl or vinyl), the second is through licencing.
Getting paid to play out live also counts.
If you can gwt paid, good for you!. If your bitter and twisted about life like DZAbabes, then just pass 'em out for fun/free.

licensing and gigs are where it's at, but you have to have releases to get there generally

Alas, not for my dubstep. I get paid when I play gigs though. And a weird trend I've started noticing is that the smaller venues like pubs always pay you more than say a club where you pay to bloody get in.
Plus playing 'Freebird' or 'Hey Jude' to a bunch of drunken valleys people in a pub at the end of the night is always a laugh.
