Bruv your mate sounds fuckin annoying. I do a music degree at leeds and its full of heads like that.JimmaJamJamie wrote:Yeah i do. In my group of friends pretty much all of us love it but one of them is a music student at college so always looks at music in a technical way and can't enjoy a song because aparently it's "over-compressed" or something like that. A lot of the time i swear he doesn't even have a reason not to like the songs he just makes up some technical music bullshit and says it just to criticize it.
It pissess me off because i don't give a shit if it is over-compressed or not, if it sounds good then i am happy. So yeah he pretty much hate's Dubstep apart from a few songs that he says are alright.
His favourite genre is Jazz....
Edit: He said that the Bassline is this song is over-compressed. I actually wanted to hit him ha - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rvgSevIqDI
Most of my close friends are dubstep fans, and we all go round eachothers houses to dj, but my other friends hates dubstep....up until chase and status. Now everyone seems to be going crazy over dubstep, and now listen to skream, benga, and the rest of the big names.
Obviously it's the same as the dnb situation when you hear someone go 'Yeah I love drum and bass, Pendulum rock!', but on the positive side it means more people want me dj'ing at their parties now

Most of mates dont really get it to be honest. One of my mates is into black metal and he really likes it when I spin some Distance (Victim support is his fave). I have a mate in Bath that runs a record shop that specialises in dubstep, but he is the only exception.
My missus doesnt get it at all. She likes Duffy and Beth Fucking Ditto so her opinion is totally invalid.
Oh and my mum likes it when she hears my own tracks but its always like: "I dont really care for it but I like it because you made it......" gotta love the old dear really.

That's what my friends keep telling me. But is a quality like "happy" inherent in a piece of music? Sure dubstep MAKES me happy. I don't listen to music that makes me depressive.Abs wrote: it's usually quite a dark and atmospheric kind of music a lot of the time.. some people just want something a little happier and upbeat.
But ok, if one wants to hold the view that feeling happy somehow mirrors a quality that is 'really out there' in the tune (which is maybe not the latest fashion in art theory but a position I like too) then dubstep IS a happy music.
Or is it just sadism?
Anyway, (most of) my friends don't like dubstep. That's why I'm here
