it must be annoying as the versions ripped are a lower quality and misrepresentational.
just got to mark the tune at crucial points so it cant be chopped out or looped.
and to abs who made the comment that distance is some kind of money hungry scrouge... suggesting he tax the myspace... theft is theft and its easy to make those kinds of comments when the crime is not happening to you.
serious producers are trying to make a career for themselves and i think a lot of the comments about the 'tight fisted money making producers'... 'sell out' comments about chase and status and the like are just sounding a little bitter.
at best self righteous.
people are just making the most of oppourtunities they have worked hard to be offered.
i also think that the people who make these comments are the types who given the chance would be straight there themselves... doing the same thing.

Skream got a gold disc for selling 400.000 copies of a tune that was all over the internet as a free 320kbps download, so chucking your toys out of the pram because some muppet ripped a two-and-a-half minute 64kbps clip smells a bit like an overreaction really...
seckle wrote:too many people want the fasttrack into this sound, and choose to create a stir by raping a classic to get their name out; one way gains you respect, the other way makes you look like an opportunist. if you're smart you choose the former, because the latter is a fast rise, and then a quick fall.
The tune wasn't given out to him to play, it hasn't had a release on viynl or MP3, he shouldn't have taken it and played it, end of. Distance is well within his rights to be annoyed. Those of you quick to challange the validity of his reaction seem to think this is a finacial issue, when financial gain has never been mentioned. The point is that the power to present his music in the manner which he sees fit has been taken out of his hands. Just because this type of thing happens all the time on the internet doesn't mean his annoyance is unjustified. Personally i give him credit for not naming and shaming the culprit ( i think the dj in questions saving grace is his naivety about the situation), not sure many of us in the same scenario would have the restraint.
to distance,
do the thing they use to do in the old grime days... get ur track and pitch bend bits down in cubase or something so that it gets sloooowwwwww and then goes back to how it was (or as they use to, slow the vinyl for a bit).... orrrr..... um... maybe get a computer voice (female sounds best) and get it say "DISTANCE, PROMO" etc... "anyone playing this is being tracked and shortly will be fined by an automated legal system"
either way, have you got AIM?

someone did tht to our myspace and ive come across all my tunes up for dl
its got to b expected tho sure weve all done it at some point, hopefully if people like em enough they will buy a better quality version and keep supporting the scene if its a distance tune sure people will cop it anyway.
rant over

or the promoter, which is the most important part of this. people that take the piss, need a night to take the piss at. this sort of thing starts and ends with the promoter of the night ,imo. its his job to be responsible for his lineup choices.TUNNIDGE wrote: Personally i give him credit for not naming and shaming the culprit

I'd hate to have my shit spread all over like a diseased whore. but even worse is when someone spreads your track when it's a shit sounding web rip. bad sounding illegal promotion is worse than just illegal promotion.
This is what I would do, if I Distance, or other producer.
I'd put this all over my web/myspace promo tracks...
"i'm suck ass DJ... i tried to lick Distances ass for some free 320's but I just aint good enough... so hear I am with a shit ass myspace rip... hope ya'll got your ear plugs in.. ohh did i meantion?? i'm a suck ass DJ ??"
and have some chickens clacking and clucking all on top of it.
