macbook pro (early 2007) won't turn on, anyone experiences?

Post by cixxxj » Sat Jul 18, 2009 2:21 pm

I was working with my MBP and when i was finished i turned it off. Went out and came back home in some hours. I went to turn it on and it's totally dead. I already tried the SMC reset, the computer wouldnt turn on at all. Anyone experienced this? and how do you solved eventually?

Did you get the apple care? Sounds like warranty is your best bet.

Sorry, its not early 2008 but 2007. 1 year warranty is over and no apple care, going to service it on monday i assume. not much that can be done. Charger and battery seem all ok. Seems like its stuck in stop, like its thinkin the monitor is closed while its open

Have you tried unplugging from the power source, removing the battery for 30 seconds, replacing the battery, plugging power back in and then turning on again?

Try that and let me know.

If that doesn't work, you may have a power supply problem or some other issue.

Take it into the apple store. They might do a freebie repair for you if it's the first time you've had trouble with it or if it's some "new bug".

Battery and power supply look like they're ok but I probabily will be testing them with another mbp which is the same model.
I've tried multiple times unplugging power and batteries and will try again today. Had no luck also with the SMC reset which according to many on oter forums having had the same experience should have fixed the problem but not in my case unfortunately.

I didnt know about getting a free repair. On Monday I'm going to an apple store which has been up since the Apple II. I'm thinking about the monitor mechanism is broken, otherwise it is the logic board and that'd be quite evil

Read up on the Nvidia Graphic Processors issue and contact the Apple Service hotline for help. (Even if you're past warranty.)

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

If your computer qualifies, they will recommend the nearest service centre and give you an exemption code for a free inspection there.

There appears to be a great number of users who encounter major issues with 2007/ 2008 batch of MB Pros.

If you're one of them, read up on the topic in apple support forums. Do fight for your money!

p.s. Try to back up your data, before taking to service. (Connect your mac to another via firewire and startup in Target disk mode: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661)

whilst you have the battery and adapter disconnected, hold down the on button for 15-30 seconds, this ensures there is no charge whatsoever amongst any of the capacitors and whatnot. Then boot it up without the battery just the mains adapter

open it up and make sure your ram hasnt come unseated. i dropped my macbook once, and after that i thought it was dead. i took it into the apple shop, and the guy just popped the battery out and pushed the ram back in, et voila, started up again!

I've had the same issue before and it turned out to be faulty ram.

End of the story, motherboard was totally burnt out. I thought about the misplaced ram too was hoping for such things but without having it dropped and such physical failures were unlikely. I'm investigating tho and found i may have some irregular oscillations into my house's electrical connections. Thank you all much for all your help!!!!
