wobble
I think maybe he's wondering, and so I am for that matter, how best to automate varying wobble rates/filter effects in a track...and I think he's asking if you can duplicate the same bass line and mute/unmute the parts you wont from the copy which contains varying speed wobbles?
yeah but can i just put effects on one clip? like rather than having each clip with different effects settings in a whole new track?Eops wrote:cant you just copy the clips and put the effects on the copy? Then you can trigger them as you wish?TightLife wrote:is there any way i can set automation for a clip, so i could have 2 clips containing the same midi/audio but triggering it with different automation in the same track? cheers guys, everything thats been posted so far has been really helpful!
Maybe I missed the point here O_O
to use Yamaz's example, could i have it set up so one clip will be set up with say, a 1/8 speed wobble, but then if i trigger the clip directly below it it will play with a 1/16 wobble? like rather than setting up the clip in a different midi track... does this make sense?
Yo...
i have a few questions...
anyone a guru with midi..
i ahve a trigger finger in use with my ableton live session that when i change the programs (1-16) the midi signals get confused and the mappings change...
also.. im triyng to figure a way for ableton not to jump to the clip that is triggered... so if im in a mix of scenes and i want to trigger some samples over the top it doesnt jump down the page so i have to go al the way back up?
any help would be appreciated!!

As far as your trigger finger goes.. If the gear is at all dodgy, and I have had some dodgy m- audio gear. the mappings will come in and out or not respond.. I recommend going with a better midi controller to solve you mapping issues..duff wrote:Yo...

otherwise P.1 is the only one that works with drumrack in the sleek "play what your looking at style"
also is it selected in the list in the control surface section? if you only turn the buttons on in the bottom its not going to work right

you need "return tracks"dubz wrote:Just picked this up and switching from cubase - still haven't figured out how to route channels to sends so I can have my dry sample come through and the send at the wet - any help would be def appreciated
thanks lads
if there aren't any, go to "Insert" and click "insert return channel"
drop the effects in the return channel (it may be hidden so press the buttons "S" and "R" and the bottom right)
and on the audio channel turn up the knob with the same name as the return
lots of routing possibilities

yo...
the tigger finger isn't broken... (im pretty sure)
im changing the program number -- not changing the midi channel - very annoying gets confused!
i have another question also.... does anyone know how to stop ableton jumping to a clip when its triggered..
so say i have my set at the top left and i got a load of percussion i want to trigger down the bottom right i'd want to trigger clips off without the window view jumping down so i have to keep going back and forth?

save the presets in ableton or on the trigger finger? Im mapping individual clips like vocals on p1 congas on p2 etc..
no i don't have it selected as a control surface.
The m-audio gear is janky.... I have had the same problem your having now with 2 pieces of m-audio gear the x-session and the oxygen 8 and I have been using ableton for about 5 years now..try reloading the software for the trigger finger if your using a pc. If that doesn't work then I say MUTINY!!!!!![/quote]

i second this... 8 is amazing.Eops wrote:I disagree - you can probably sort out your problems loading live 7 files by deleting your old live 7 config file (search the ableton forums for the details - but once I did this Ive had no problems at all).MYST wrote:Top tip: If your using live 7, and thinking about upgrading to 8...Dont!
For the amount of money there's really not that much extra.
Sure the groove engine is cool, but are you really gunna use it that much? I know i havent.
PLUS ive had about 3 sets that are unable to open in 8 but still open fine in 7 which has pissed me off into continuing on with 7
And how can you say you dont get much?
Corpus is AMAZING and my fave new tool
New interface on the samplers and operator are much better
THe new algorhythm choices on the sampler are ace
The vocoder is great fun (LAlala Im a robot and so on)
All the new mastering tools are most welcome
Latin Percussion is a crystal clear sound set for percussion
I could go on ... theres lots more once you get under the hood.
Not to mention the promise of live sharing across the net very soon ... oh and max for live too!
I can only assume you d/loaded the deo played around for an hour and rushed to your conclusion (which of course is fairly valid) . Or maybe Im just easily entertained?
Get 8 it rocks I say!
the new warping engine is great, being able to preview wav and midi clips in the browser saves time (especially if you have a massive collection of one hits!) and the ability to bring your vst knobs into the DAW for easy automation totally makes it worth your money!
Yeah, each clip can have it's own automation. Just make sure to hit the save button for each clip in the clip view and it will retain it's settings every time you load that clip. Also, just saving your live set will retain any automation settings for that particular set.TightLife wrote:is there any way i can set automation for a clip, so i could have 2 clips containing the same midi/audio but triggering it with different automation in the same track? cheers guys, everything thats been posted so far has been really helpful!
Yeah, it's pretty easy. You just have to set the tempo in the scene section at the right. Just type in your tempo there and live will adjust the tempo for every scene. Just make sure to launch your clips as a scene (click the launch button in the scene section on the right!).Ghost Mutt wrote:Anyone know if there's any way of tying a tempo change to a clip, IE, so I could launch a clip and it would play at the tempo that the particular clip is warped to? Trying to cobble together a mix at the moment with lots of different tempos in it and looking for something a bit easier then setting scene launch tempo and having to drop everything in the right row.
EZ
Hmm, I've seen you give this advice a couple of times now. While it may work for you, the session view is an incredibly powerful part of Live that shouldn't be overlooked. You will be using this part in a live PA setting all of the time. As far as production goes, I've found I can lay out arrangements very easily in the session view and then go to the arrangement view to start doing edits, overdubs and tidying up the overall structure. They both work very well together.notch wrote:
TIP: Get out of the session view(clip view)..
I work exclusively in the arrangement view now.. I often found myself just making clips but not producing music in the session view..

I have a technical question that doesnt fully have to do with Ableton:
Anyone ever reach that bug with rewire and Logic 8 where if you have melodyne or Reason or Ableton Live it can cause your core audio to crash.
Well a bud of mine ran into this the other day, he doesnt have Melodyne but he has both Reason and Live. Is there something you can do so you can keep using either or, or do you really have to choose one of the preference files and delete them rendering reason or live un-rewire-able.
