IF your really crafty you can key out all your tracks with mixed in key so you can really bang out a set.. key, bpm and track name is a nice way to label tracks..

then again it kinda goes out the window unless their all the same bpm since pitching them up or down will change the key... unless you cheat and prepitch all your mp3s/wavs

i need a crash course in using the apc 40... got a few live things lined up and im scratching the surface now... but i know there's so much more to it, i havnt the time to explore, i need expert help quickly so i can start co-ordinating my set properly...
if i had more time id be looking into it. been looking at a few courses for live 8 but cant find any for the apc...
anyone fancy giving me some tuition on this thing or pointing me in that direction?

that looks cool... is it possible for the apc to control the whole performance, i.e have 3 synths and microphone for vocals all going through it, so i can fuck with the whole performance in real time i.e using filters/time stretching and fx....?

yes. more a function of how much your computer can process in real-time w/ no latency, but i can run a full session w/ 2 live tracks coming in, 4 sends, 8 audio tracks w/ fx on 'em, etc w/ no problems on my white macbook.

at least for now.

how would you set up an effects unit like an efx 500 or something with ableton? would it be on the outpu or something?

If you're in Live 7 or later you can use the External Effects setting and just put it wherever you want - Aux send, master or a channel. You just need a soundcard with enough ins and outs.

Still though, unless you're going back and forth between dnb and dubstep with every track, more than 90% of your tunes are going to be played at around the same bpm anyway. So I don't see how using something like mixed in key would be useless. And as bad as the warping sounds bringing a track from 172 to 140, I can't imagine you're pitching them like you said you were? Surely that would sound much, much worse.
