Hey guys. I'm pretty new to production and ive been playing arpund with bass lines. Ive basicaly got the rough wobble sound im after, using LFO and that, and ive stuck it in my track. When I play it back though it doesnt seem to have the presence or grab that alot of rough growly basses seem to have. Im just wondering if you guys have any tips. I have produced a small snippet of what its currently sounding like. I'm using cubase with albino 3 btw. Cheers for any help.

Ahh, cheers. I needed somone to shout at me about frequencies, i have very little clue of the order. I'll get to work on that right away.
Is it possible to just pitch up the kick i have in there now? Or would that sound as sloppy as it is?
also, one more question about bass. With a wobble bass (and dont worry i know how to make it, so i wont be that nooby), say in a song like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKahubEOI8w, what sync is the LFO set to? becuase it doesnt seemt o be quite 1/8. Maybe its just me head spinnin.
Right thanks guys for the input, seriously appreciated.

make sure your mids cup the balls toonowaysj wrote:Forgot to mention, yeah, you can pitch the kick up, if it sounds good, you have to make the call. Sometimes if I'm going quick, I'll find a higher kick and maybe even pitch that up a bit. If I'm really working, I'll make (in a synth) the kick hit the spot I want, usually w/ a fundamental around 100 that slopes pretty quickly down to 80.
If you make that kick, it might sound a bit high, but if you have a sub hitting at the same time, the kick will punch you in the gut, and the sub will kick u in the balls. Works well together to incapacitate ur audience.
I wouldn't put a chorus over the full bass sound, really only put a chorus to add some movement in the mid tops once you've bounced the sound, you don't want chorus on anything lower than about 300 hz, you'll get phase issues in the bottom end.
Also I wouldn't use the built in time-based (reverb/delay) effects of a synth bass part as once it's printed that's the way it'll stay.
You're better off bouncing a dry version and if you really are keen on using the delays onboard the synth bounce out a wet version and hi pass it.
