That Burial Soundalike

Post by djfurness » Wed Jul 29, 2009 2:41 pm

Can anyone remember that thread where someone pointed in the direction of a Myspace for some producer who sounded literally IDENTICAL to Burial?
It was part of a massive thread. this producer got quite a ripping on here. Been searching through some threads but with no luck. Want to show my mate how silly it was how much this guy had based his sound on him.

Yeah it was in the announcement/hype thread for the burial/fourtet release. And oh my blimey it was similar  Guy had some pretty good ideas/production skills though, would have potential otherwise lol

That's an admirable thing to do.

Thats the fella. Must say they are rather good tunes, just highly unimaginative and original. Alright to listen to while we wait for proper new Burial I suppose

Why rip on him, and not the countless *BANGING DUBSTEP IF U LIKE CASPER THEN UR LIKE THIS*

Not many people do what Burial does, and his tunes aren't THAT similar. Seems more upbeat and stuff.

You lot are mean!

As much as innovation over imitation in everyway, i have to agree with this statement. :)

I don't understand the negativity, Burial sounds a lot like Nightmare On Wax and various other producers from the early nineties, doesn't stop his music being fuckin great does it?

Got to say, the 2nd tune down is fucking sick, although very burial esque..

imitation is the highest form of flattery right?

that slew guy sounds like he has literally sampled the drums from archangel - they sound exactly the same as certain burial drum patterns. not just the rhythm but the percussion sounds,

but some of the is imaginative, has a nice groove and feel to it still.....

It always amazes me how talented producers can be so devoid of their own original ideas. I mean, you don't even need to re-invent the wheel or anything... just spin it in your own direction. Everyone has their favourite artists and this sound resonates with them personally, but to actually try and make something sound as close to them as they can make it just defeats the point of being creative in the first place.

Tycho is the same. Really good producer, but just utterly incapable of doing anything beyond the template Boards of Canada already made. It's sad really, cos music production should be a deeply personal thing, taking something from yourself and giving it to the sound you create.

In terms of the experimentation with layered textures and beats, he does to my ears.

Red Snapper spring to mind straight away.

Just my opinion.

burial reminds me of lustmord and bastard noise at times
hell boards of canada bits too
but producers using same sample sources is common
when cloning same as other can be taken as flattery or cloning/generic
matter of opinion
