I know...

I love this plug. AD plugs are so cheap anyway, it almost makes me feel guilty that they gave this one away for free.

Almost.

Long live the Ruff Rider.

Good call, I used to have that installed. Don't know what happened, forgot about it I guess.

Also check out their latest, Eos.

LUSH reverb. And again, best quality you can find for the price.

tbh- while sometimes i really mash the fuck outta something, i find i use some of the less extreme of its capabilities.

for a quick fix, both 'subtle' & 'new york' are good presets. subtle is at it says, just a touch to keep your levels in line and new york adds a bit of punch without leaving a smoldering crater. that said, if you really wanna get nasty- it is the nastiest of the nasties.

i mainly use it for drums, but it can really rough-up bass quite nicely as well. this morning, for the first time, i used the 'subtle' setting on some rap vocals and it worked pretty well.

oh it most definitely colors the sound... no one (least of all AD) has ever implied otherwise. and with a name like 'rough rider' one would never assume it to be transparent.

this is not a bad thing. an 1176 colors the hell out of material in a supersexy way.

yeah so far it's great on drums, or on leads that need some sonic push and pull. the makeup gain is surprising in that it really changes the envelope; wonder if this is a feedback modeling thing.

yeah it kills the highs. when using it on just kicks, snares or bass it is nasty. but when using it on the drum buss it does kills the hats a bit. so i give it a high shelf eq at 3khz with +1 or 2 dbs befor and after this nasty machine. btw i use this on my drums or the time and love it i just wish it didn't kill the highs
