Any melodica players here?

ive read a bunch about them and have been meaning to get one

they aren't too hard to play if you know keyboard

and the expensive ones aren't much better than the cheap ones

get one and be sure to put that dub delay on it

I picked a green Hohner for a $1 at a recyling centre and it works great. Ya can't go wrong with a Hohner Melodica. I think the green ones are soprano.

I've got a green hohner melodica as well, can sound a little bit plasticy at times (cause it's a new one). But overall pretty dope, especially once you play with the sound a little bit later on. Nice not to have to construct stuff out of samples and super easy to play.

I got one for Christmas to record some shit but haven't really got round to it. I taught myself how to play Under The Dancing Feet though, and a couple of other tunes I can't remember the name of.
I got mine for £20 off ebay, not too shabby.

yeeah horns the way forward! got myself a sax too, been playing for a while. finding it a little bit hard to write beats that are chill/organic enough to play sax to tho.

so whats the differance between a soprano and another one

Soprano is in the upper musical register, the other ones are Alto or Tenor i think. They may even be baritone, but any ways the soprano is higher and the rest are lower. I find the green ones sweet for making dub melodies. Try using a shitty mic and record down to tape then bring it back into your DAW and add your dub delay. I've used two cheap mics on a drumkit, recorded to cassette and then run through some reverb before bringing it back into the digital realm, and it makes your sound, sound old school. I kinda thought that the old jamacian muso's wouldn't have had the expensive gear. Well maybe King Tubby and a few others....

there's sopranino which is even higher, I assume that all instruments have this but I could be wrong.

All of em (regardless of make/model) will eventually go out of tune.

I was reading a tutorial on how to shave the internal reeds in order to tune... but I think I'll just correct the intonation digitally.

If you can play keyboard then you can play 1 of these.. there wicked for dub.
