A couple of times people have tried to rob me when I was younger and my philosophy was don't give those fuckers anything, but I never really got into a really bad situation so I don't know if someone had a knife I'd have the balls to tell them to go fuck themselves, probably not, I'm a pretty skinny and pathetic looking guy, I doubt I'd be much good in a fight. A few years ago in a club I was pilled up and a guy started hassling me for pills, I didn't give him shit, we argued for a while then his mate, a huge black guy headbuts me and I didn't see it coming but I just stood there and stared them out, blood streaming from my nose, I wasn't going to fight three of them I'd have lasted about two minutes, so they left it.
A couple of weeks back I was on a bus and these two guys get on. One sits at the back smoking a joint, the other goes to the front and starts hassling a Somalian guy, he doesn't give the guy anything, then after a bit they start talking and joking awkwardly so I think I must have got the situation wrong. He leaves the bloke and sits next to a girl, starts up similar talk, asks her if she finds him threatening, she says no. I figure maybe he's chatting her up, he talks for a bit then leaves her. Comes sits next to me, starts asking all of these bullshit questions. "I ain't seen you around here? Where you from?" I'm smiling and laughing thinking he's some kind of a nut, so ask "is this your thing then? Talking to all the people on the bus?" and he goes "yeah it's my fucking job." Trying maybe to seem sinister, but I just thought he's a bit weird. After a little while we bump hands and he's off to the next person on the bus. There's three lads about eighteen or so sat on one seat each down the left of the bus, just behind me. He starts asking them the same questions then leans into him and starts hassling him for his phone, his money, this goes on for ages, about fifteen minutes and the lads not giving him anything. I guess before he was sounding me out to see how I would react, maybe I confused him by acting like it was a joke, maybe he thought I didn't have much money or wouldn't give it up, I don't know. But he was there hassling the kid, and I really feel bad that I didn't do shit about it, neither did anyone else on the bus, there was about three other full grown men there, including the Somalian fella who'd already been hassled before, the lad had two friends too, the mugger had his large mate at the back, but if we wanted to the two of them could have had the shit kicked out of them. Anyway at the end a woman gets of the bus and I guess they were scared that she'd call the police or something so they run off the bus. Thinking about it I'd really have loved to just get up and start on the pair of them, and I feel a bit bad that I didn't, it should be a civic duty to stop assholes like that, the world would be a better place if people did.
