leeds vs Notts Dubstep scene
leeds vs Notts Dubstep scene
Okay so I'm living in Notts atm and it's doing alright for itself in terms of dubstep nights/ fans/ artists etc. Might be moving to Leeds next year though, what's the scene like there? I heard it's sposed to be pretty good.
Is there any other places (besides London) that are some major contenders?

I'm a Leeds lad and i rate the scene here very highly, especially when i go to other cities which are a bit of a let down. I think alot of people take it for granted. We have nights here like sub dub, exodus, vagabondz, ruffage, room 237, bigger than barry, My new night starting in october:
Launch Night Monday 5th October @ The Wire

I'm coming down to nottingham this friday for emalkay and seven at stealth, should be a banger, i'm yet to see much of the scene down there.

Thanks for reassuring me that I'm making the right decision, those look like some big nights, nice one on starting one up too, maybe I'll play one at some point? :pCut&Paste wrote:I'm a Leeds lad and i rate the scene here very highly, especially when i go to other cities which are a bit of a let down. Yeah notts has got a fair few regular ones on, but I guess leeds has got this one in the bag

I even rate Exodus over the mighty DMZ in London.
Says a lot....
In terms of diversity, Leeds is fucking on point.

Nottingham has a scene, but for the size of the city and the gap between the big promoters and the ones on a budget is massive. Also good venues are few and far between in Nottingham and this year its guna have something between 10 and 13 dubstep nights, which for the size of the scene there is ridiculous. For instance take the last Exodus vs Misst at the Garvey, Hatcha, Kromestar, RSD, Pinch, Exodus and Oris Jay the turnout was quite honestly pathetic for a night of that scale. That line up and the night itself was sick, but nottingham does itself no favors by a lot of people being attracted by the safety net of big corporate clubs and commercial line ups.
But thats a side debate in answer to your question Leeds is the only city imo outside of London (other than maybe Bristol) where you have week in, week out the best line ups throughout the week in a real variety bag of clubs and have a sick time at everyone. Nottingham or Leeds, Just look at what Exodus said to make up your mind

Those are some big nights at exodus,
One thing I don't think I pointed out, I was kinda lookin' from a dj's perspective too, I wanna be able to get regular gigs in (for promotion as well as funding to fuel my vinyl addiction
)
For a not so established artist would it be hard getting a slot anywhere? There's a lot of big names playin' which is good from a crowds point of view but will it make it harder for me to get booked?
