Post by phillipdrummond » Tue Aug 11, 2009 1:29 am

what up folks... myspace.com/phillipdrummond in the blog entry for LA vs the Bay Grindtime Beat battle has several hundred megs of really ill rare funk, ethnic, soul, some reggae, indian etc. jams for you to sample.

If anyone is in the Bay Area or cali I do monthly beat battles and would love to get some dubstep folks in it. I also posted three mixes/compilations recently on my blog on there which has music you can sample as well. get at me!

Not trying to hate but in the vids, I think the "DJ's" touched the "decks" like once, if that. No one did anything hahaha, they just pressed play on their cd's. Kinda just stood there groovin, meh whatever floats your boat.

live hip-hop beat-battles are in the same vein as turntablism battles aka they are dope. i'm sorry but this sort of shit is just weak and lame as hell. a couple of nerdy looking fucks on stage moving awkwardly and doing fuck all.

when that idiot in the dilla shirt and jacket started playing with his mixer it was literally cringe worthy.

Is Phillip Drummond the same dude that just flames his events on every single forum regardless of genre?

I feel like thats how I know your name.

Not really impressed by the quality of producers tp be onest. The Louie Den Beat Cipher is filt with sick ass beats.

I think it's a better idea to just give every producer a record and compete in a LIVE battle. Make the beat right on the spot. 8)

"doesnt Dibiase get down on these?"

yes he has won three of them now and rocked a live set at the last one...D is the homey. wait till you see the footage of the Iron Chef battle I did with him in it...it was the first time I gave samples to be flipped.

"No one did anything hahaha, they just pressed play on their cd's."

Yep, I was gonna have folks bring in their machines, but then I realized how damn complicated that was in terms space, if someone uses a desktop computer, sound issues and I usually have 16 plus competitors. I'd love to do it in the future, but not realistic right now. Also the guys are making theri beats ahead of time and making polished, finished products, it's a different experience than on the spot, which is dope as well.

you get up there with whatever samplers and stuff you got and compete... thats what I thought this was.

please tell me about this...do you mean the Hotel Room battles or the ones that O-Phrap is doing?

"I'm sorry but this sort of shit is just weak and lame as hell."

I think it's way cool if you are there live. Also I dunno if you understand the concept or watched all the footage but I'm giving the same samples to the contestants (or acapellas to remix) to flip.

"Phillip Drummond the same dude that just flames his events on every single forum regardless of genre?"

I grind hard and I try to get the word out. I only do it in forums that I feel are relevant...I don't know how or why I've offended your sensibilities but perhaps if you give me specifics I can be more mindful in the future. I think the event that I do is pretty special and there aren't many like it going on so if I can reach someone that I wouldn't normally by posting I'll do that. I also want to reach out to people outside the Hip Hop community, namely in this forum Dubstep cats. I don't think it's irrelevant, nor disrespectful. Do you? Maybe you know my name from somewhere else. I'm from NYC, know a good amount of people in different scenes here in the Bay and NYC.

Not really impressed by the quality of producers tp be onest. The Louie Den Beat Cipher is filt with sick ass beats.

Louis Den is sick for sure, they don't usually have people flip samples live, though, they do it ahead of time. And they often just press play if they are using a laptop..what's the difference when it's a CD? I'm guessing you're from the UK so there is regional bias. I'd put many of the producers from my battle against UK heads. I really like that kid Jaisu, he's got massive amounts of talent. However I think the cats at my battle are really pushing the bar high in terms of sequencing, drum programming, progression of the track. Listen to the chops and microsampling that Bebel does in the Deathproof battle for example. Or the way that Poetiq does crazy chops, drums and change ups. Inevitable is doing that too. Wait till you see Dibiase and Cambo is the Iron Chef footage.

thanks for checking out the footage and for giving your various opinions.
