Sound System Re-thread
Grrr last thread got deleted I'll try and retype the gist of it
I was thinking of maybe investing in a sound system
Wanna start small and get best sounding available (so I don't have to upgrade only expand)
Funktion 1 is very expensive, is it really worth it or can I buy an alternative brand and get the same (if not better) quality.
What are your views on Funktion one, do you like the sound?
I know a properly tuned system will sound better than a badly tuned expensive setup, but I will be learning all that myself and want to make sure that if my technical knowledge is up to scratch, my gear won't be holding the sound back,
Any help?

Build your own....It will sound 100% better and gradually add to it.
If I was you....go have a chat to the sound man at your next party....someone who's built a rig because its their pride, joy and life.
They will be MORE than happy to tell every detail about it

Yeah the funktion one rig in stealth is the one I meant, sounding really good in there.casual-P wrote:+1 to that. one in stealth notts is good tooThinKing wrote:it's completely down to the setup/soundman. I was thinking about building some subs, Didn't know where to look for the actual drivers though, how much would it cost to build a decent one? Would it really sound better than buying it?

if anybody knows what exact cab design + speaker/amp combo Mungo's Hi-Fi use for their rig, i'd copy that if i was you. it sounds absolutely heavy
mmmm not if you've got no prior knowledge of speaker construction.Lowpass wrote:I was thinking about building some subs...........Would it really sound better than buying it?

It all depends man! But look for CROWN, OSC, or VOID infinate series, Clearly what amps you buy depends on what you need to power, and think of it this way some amps like the VOID Infinate 8 can give you 1350 of each channel at 8 ohms.... or somthing like that. they cost about £2000 new but somthing like that could power most of a start up rig and the less amps you have the less weight your rig is and the less that can go wrong.... BIG TIP learn the Science and do it right.

I'd love to own a phatty system. Gotta give credit to the SMASH Dubstep family in Vegas for buying their own Turbosound rig, which near blows the roof off the tiny venue. I'd think owning your own would spurn dj/producer mates to get their own night started as they'd get mates rates. It'd be a sound investment.
Stay away from Cerwin Vega and JBL. Never heard em sounding good anywhere.
A few years ago before Funktion One blew up I knew they would custom build every rig for each buying venue/club, not sure if its the case now but I know Stiff Kitten in Belfast had a custom set up. F One done right is simply the best, it's the only sound i've came across that you can have a full conversation with right in front of the cabs. Don't really know how it's possible but gizzod dayum it's clean.

whats your budget?
funktion one, turbo sound, noise control, martin audio, in that order for me. but they cost serious money.
if you have time and willing to wait for the build i would look into a custom setup.
What music and for how many people will the system cater for? for custom build look into punisher sub horns or lab horns those were some serious subs being used by many uk free party crews. the punishers are easily the best compact subs i have ever heard.
i have heard great jbl systems too, so really as said before its all down to the engineer and the right amps.

Budget Wise I'm unsure,
I'd want to be able to use it for smaller gigs/club nights to get money in to build on it and take it to bigger places for larger cash.
Maybe £1 - 2 k not sure how little I can invest before I can start to see a return. I know it's not a lot but I wanna know what I can do to start off.
