whats wrong with west thamesmead?

Post by triky » Wed Aug 19, 2009 1:34 pm

I am moving to london in a couple months and looking at places to live. found something looks decent on the internet called Royal Arsenal properties near woolwich town or something. Its new but its cheap (enough). Is there something dodgy about that area? Anyone know whats the deal?

this is where I live, well 2 minutes up the road from the arsenal.
its NOT far from everywhere, theres a DLR station 5 minutes from the arsenal flats what takes 20 minutes to get up into central, theres loads of supermarkets near by and greenwich is a 15 minute bus trip away with nice pubs and places to eat..

if you need any more info just give me a shout :)

And woolwich is a bit of a shit hole, theres quite a few places you don't really wanna walk down late a night and such but the arsenal estate is REALLY nice, right by the thames walk, which is really chilling at night - never any trouble down that way and theres bus stops opposite the flats - so really you'll only be in woolwich when you're at home and walking to the bus stop - theres not much there apart from the standard highstreet shops and take aways, the pubs are all wank in woolwich and generally have quite a bit of beef and over priced..

but like I said the Arsenal is tucked away from the rest of that part, in a really nice, posh estate what pop singers and football players live in.. haha

Its cheap because Greenwich council are in the process of re-vamping Woolwich for the Olympics so they built fancy flats and that in the arsenal then struggled to get people to move in there since its Woolwich, evidently they're building a supermarket, cinema and something else in the arsenal too so its going to be the first big step to turning woolwich into a nice place, I mean its not a shit place to live at all - its just the pubs and shops there are pretty basic.

I lived out there for 2 years, really wouldn't recommend it. It's a shithole and it's a pain in the arse getting back from anywhere late at night.

The DLR's quite fun though you can pretend you're driving it

Theres a foot tunnel by the ferry too for late at night when you're in north of the river.

It's a bit of a pain in the arse full stop, I wouldn't move outside of Zone 3. I lived in Morden for a couple of months whilst I was looking for somewhere more central, fucking two hour journey each way onto your day is shit.
