just who IS burial and why is the identity of one of the best and most emotive musicians in music today a secret? unbelievable. i need another burial album now!! aaahhh!!

btw, anybody notice burial's latest ("Versus," "Unite," "Woon Remix") stuff sounds a bit more polished than a lot of the material on the album? is he sequencing his beats now?

Managed to mix Versus so probably yeah. I think it seems to me that there's a bit more of an old skool (92) feel to some of it - more the vibe than the sound.

I'd rather he kept on putting out top tunes and not have to get involved in the celeb business stuff to be honest. Don't really have to know the person to enjoy the music.

the contrast to the burial remix is actually farsical. this one is soulful, how on earth did the man get to be so deep?!!!

yeah agreed. it's weird though that one of my favorite new musicians is completely unknown. a totally mysterious outsider. it's refreshing, not to mention incredibly seductive (er, not in a batty way hehe). in an industry of insane obsession with celebrity and commercial gain, it's great that at least one guy is delivering *real* fucking music from the heart without any desire for the standard trappings of "fame and fortune." sounds cheezy but he's like a symbol to me of what this music is really about. a totally alien (but strangely familiar and incredibly resonant) sound just bubbling up from the streets.

Don't think anyone's steeping this in mysticism, it's just interesting that the music doesn't need a celeb face to promote it and the anonymity is kind of unique at this time in music. It could be a clever marketing angle to give it an air of mystery, or it might just be that he's shy, or not driven to celebrity status. Don't think anyone's thinking he's the second coming or anything.

And if you do know a man that's going to get violent over somebody's opinion on music (FFS), could you either get them to

a/ seek counselling for whatever issues they've got
b/ stop smoking rocks
c/ batter themselves to death and make the world one dickhead lighter

this thirst to connect a name to a face is a bit ridiculous. before the internet, people used to just pick up vinyl from the store rack, put it on a turntable and enjoy it, without having to know the music's legacy. it makes me wonder what motivates some people on this forum.

now everyone needs to know everything about everyone and who their uncle freddy is, and whether he likes salt in his pea soup.

this is one of the biggest burial tunes to date, and that should be enough ffs. big up MA for pushing the beats.

i guess your comments are directed at me? why is it so ridiculous to want to connect a face to the music? why is it so weird to consider the mysterious identity of a producer an interesting facet of the music? is my interest and admiration of an artist "detracting" from my enjoyment of the music? why does anybody like to learn about a band, or producer, or dj, or read biographies or post on a message board for that matter?

true, but the fact that people care so much about an artist is great news in and of itself. enjoying the music goes without saying, and i don't think anybody would care about burial unless they enjoyed the music already. that's the whole point. the music has spoken for itself, and it's interesting that this artist has no interest in celebrity wereas so many others do. in fact i'd go so far as to say (if you read the blackdown interview) that the mystery is somewhat calculated.

i don't get all the derision on this board regarding what people post about burial. i mean wtf? "omg, why don't you just enjoy the music and stfu!?" why post on a message board at all? what's the point?
