Cheap Basic Efficient Vinyl Storage>> help?

ive used the search function. i do not want ikea expedit, i do not have time to build myself....

my housemate and i yesterday took delivery of a delightful 8 week old Staff puppy, however, said puppy loves chewing things. I have several thousand vinyl knocking about our house. The loft is full. My bedroom is full. We need something downstairs to put records in to stop young Dave having a chew on them. I can make a door to cover the front of whatever i buy so he cant get to them, but having them propped up against the wall is no longer an option...

I dont like Icubes, think they are a ripoff for what they are..
years ago u used to be able to buy storage cube units from B&Q which were perfect for vinyl as my Dad has a couple of them, but i cant find them so im guessing they dont make them any more...

so any suggestions for something that might fit the criteria that's not gonna break the bank?

the ikea expedit takes like 45 mins to put to gether you lazy bastard. =P

it is perfect and exactly what you are looking for and cost like $100 and fits over 1000+ records.

nothing else comes close imo.

Do they do like singular expedit cudes aswell, or is it just blocks of 4/8 etc?

I bought a magazine rack. It works surprisingly well. I think it was like 30$ at Home furniture.

if you take your time building it (ie. dont rush) and use the wall mounting brackets, then you will be fine and dandy
i recommened getting the biggest size on eyou can fit in your space as trust me they fill up fast :P

Gonna build 'em tonight, will take pics and let you know what I think. Mine are only small (2x2) ones though, I'd guess you might need the big one or stack small ones on top of something else just so you can keep your records out puppy-reach height!

The smallest are 2x2 and 1x4 (tall)

Oo! Just noticed they have boxes (Drona, Flort and I like the look of the Lekmans!) as well that fit into the Expedit shelves.

never had any problem with my expedit.

Iv got a 4 across 2 up. when its first built il admit, it didnt look too solid, but the more you fill it, the sturdier it gets.

mines is full (ish) now and is still solid.

i'm in the same situation and going to do this that joenice recommends. its a couple of expedit boxes and some tv units on top. it's not got quite as much storage as i thought though so may have to extend it a bit

I've got one 4x4 expedit and one that is 4x2, the bigger one is well filled up and it's never given me any trouble. And it's the second time I put it up, still pretty sturdy. Smaller one has another handy quality, it's perfect height for decks :)

are those things not just modern milk crates stacked on their sides, so the opening is in the front? I dunno about your local grocery store but the one i shop at keeps milk crates stacked outside...get like 16 of the fuckers, paint em black &...its old school but fuck man, its not 100+ bucks. just keep records out of the bottom ones & you should be puppy-proof. Imma be needing to Hedgehog-proof my place soon...that should be a bit easier tho...just straightening all my loose wires, lol...best of luck...

These tend to work well most of the time. i have a square one in plastic in which i store about 90 vinyls and looks sassy as shite.
EDIT: Didn't realize the puppy problem. try finding those spacious toy containers made out of plastic with lids that can be locked. These could probably be stacked as well.
