BACK IN STOCK. So, where to start with this, one of the most sought after dub records in the history of recorded music? According to legend, 'Dub Serial' was produced by Joe Gibbs in 1972 and was reputedly the first ever "Dub" record to be made and commercially released on the island. But with the original price tag of $50 this was way out of your average reggae buyers budget which meant the set was reserved for play only on the systems that could afford it, lending it an exclusivity and near mythical status that has teased reggae and dub fiends ever since. The set itself is a remarkable collection of raw early dub instrumentals processed by Joe Gibbs for maximum effect on big rigs. Bass levels are pushed into the red and the tape edits are spliced with a ruff but intuitively effective technique that has influenced some of the finest music of the last 40 years. It's kind of hard to imagine what contemporary dance music would be like without the overbearing influence of one man and his engineer f*cking around with the EQ's in his studio back in 1974. 'God Bless The Children' is probably one of the finest examples here, truly screwing with the riddim to make it surge and heave with mad delay and reverb applications that must have sounded completely alien in Kingston dances around 1974, while his version of 'Satta Amassa Gana' must surely rank as one of the most important relics of 20th Century music. This is the origin of hi-tech funk i.e rhythm and bass music enhanced by technological innovation and comes recommended to all followers of any kind of dance music with emphasis on the Bass, from garage to Techno to dubstep, this is the template for instrumental rhythm based studio music.
