I've been a sufferor >20yrs.
Given that you use up 60% energy by looking, I recommend reading (It's not like you don't have time for it!).
Victorian era / Shakespear etc requires a little more concentration, which also adds to the tiredness... & you end up smarter.

i sometimes have trouble sleeping.

things I find good

make sure you are satisfied that you have used your day.
take some valerian an hour before bed, maybe even drink some tea with valeraian and catnip in it.
replace the lights in your room with really low watt fluros, like a 5 watt. When you turn it on, you will think wtf I cant even see in here, but within 30 seconds you will get used to it. Bright lights at night can interfere with your normal melatonin production patterns, making it difficult to sleep.
Dont drink coffee past lunchtime.

works for me ;).

I alos think alot of insomnia comes from anxiety and related issues, might not be the case with you, but worth thinking about. Tackleing those will lead to better sleep.

or you could just read a really shit book, hah.

Most good bits of advice have probably been covered. Exercise, wee bit of camomile tea or what not before bed, no stimulants like tea or coffee at night, routine (go to bed and get up at the same time everyday). On the other hand you could be one of the unlucky bassas who try everything under the sun and still can't get to sleep :P

Regular exercise and zero caffeine/fizzy juice is good for me.

Working a dull 9-5iver is quite effective too.

Annoyingly, all my best musical thoughts come when I'm teetering on the edge of sleep, so I am constantly up trying to bash out ideas on the computer before i pass out.

you're so thoughtful, dr vaccine.

i am such a nightowl, and always have been. i find it REALLY hard to disengage my brain in the evenings, and it's become worse since i moved to london, because i often stay up late to talk to my friends and fam in nz.

the thing is, once i am actually head on pillow, i knock out almost straight away. it's the getting there part that i struggle with! i average about 5-6 hours a night.
i'm takin this show on the road.
