I started using Logic about six months ago when my PC died and I had to start using our Mac for everything. I've got so into it I'm going to buy a Macbook and Logic 9 if I ever get any spare cash.

I reckon you can do pretty much anything inside Logic itself. Got some great sounds out of the ES1 monosynth and the EXS 24 sampler is really good. To be honest I'm only just scratching the surface. My background is in live music and I'm really new to electronic music production.

The main reason to use plug ins or other soft synths is if you find them easier to use than the built in stuff. I have to admit I'm finding Massive really easy to use at the moment and have got a bit obsessed with that instead of giving all the built in features as much time as they probably deserve.

Can't get on with the Ultrabeat though for some reason. I've been using the sampler for beats and just started fiddling about with iDrum which is MUCH easier to use than UB.

I'd love some quick tips to phatten my drum sound more
ultrabeat is an ugly, ungainly beast but extremely powerful. it's like a saab, maybe. yr not gonna get laid for using it but it keeps giving up tricks that you can't believe are there.

(actually since this is dance music, you just might get laid).

problems w/ ultrabeat-- shit is WAY too loud in the existing kits. turn everything down, and turn your monitors up. i usually group things into auxes w/ a multiple--out instnace of UB; kicks, snares, metals, etc. eq the groups so that they sound nice and full and then send all those groups to a master drum bus.

compressor on VCA, maybe 6:1 or so, play around with the other settings, set distortion to "soft" and dial in maybe 50% or so of the compressor. instant parallel comp. toss a limiter on afterwards and see what phatness you've got.

awesome!!!

I feel also feel like you've typed this somewhere else before and I read it but didn't follow thru with the advice  maybe?

thank you :D

I really only use the EXS24 in logic. Only because I use loads of samples including the drums.
I also program the thing as well.
Don't really use many synths at all, just more comfortable this way.

the audio tools used are plugs by

Audio Damage
Destroy FX
TAL
Flux
Lowcoders and Bitplant
SSL
Stillwell Audio
Prosoniq
Schwa

And I use an expanded SSL Duende with 64 channel upgrade, Bus Compressor, X Comp, Drumstrip, X EQ, and Channel strip.

I find i mainly use my NI plugins (massive, kontact, guitar rig ect)

Never really got into the logic sampler or ultrabeat as i prefer to arrange drums straight onto the sequencer.

Love the reverbs though

However, one thing that seems to always let me down is the autofilter anyone else have a problem with it or can suggest a better one?

I used to love ES1 back when Logic was on Windows. Totally excellent synth, and as someone already said, you can make some superb bass sounds with it. I remember making loads and loads of patches for it back in the day. Wish I could get it as a standalone now.

^ I'd love to ba able to use the Logic plug-ins with something like Reaper... Shame they're logic only! :(

Anyone still using Logic Platinum v5.51? Seems crazy using something 6 years old but it works real well IMO...

that's the thing, Logic plug-ins, even with that version, are on a next level.

I think I have it still.....it was buggy as hell for me. I might have deleted it but kept some of the project folders....god knows why

Yep the Plat plug-ins sounds so good, plus I've made loads of my own presets now so I don't really want to move DAW's.

Well, I did ask over at the reaper forums, and it's possible to use something called rearoute to get the sound from logic into reaper... And I also use rewire from reason into Logic 5.51.

Sounds complex, but I'm gonna give it a go... But I have a feeling it would be easier to keep it simple... I use reason most of the time just for getting down ideas....

I use Reason 4 rewired into Logic 9 and I find it works a treat, as I still love to use Thor/Malstrom/Subtractor in Reason, anyone else doing this too?

I'm a big fan of Massive in Logic and also use Absynth 4 and FM8, would be interesting to see if anyone is working along the same lines?

Yeah I used an ultrabeat clap sample recently and I got the same impression. Think it was the sample itself not Ultrabeat.

space designer is one of the best reverb plugs on the market; you could charge the price of the full logic alone and it'd still be a bargain.

try one of the short rooms or halls. barring that, averb is great for short, sparkly reverberation.

enverb is REALLY weird and a bit of a resource hog but excellent for sound design.
