The Collective started off around this time in 2004 with Romesh, Gabes, Greg, Gabi and myself Zac. Starting off as a group of friends dancing the nights away to local Sydney dnb djs, we started doing house parties, and G Massive's first mix cd. We handed these out at a few gigs under Collective Recordings, and due to the awesome reaction, we went on to distribute 3 more mix cd's. Ryan Lazy and Chris J became mates with us all, and we then started getting our first gigs as a crew at the original Protein at the Sly Fox, with few of us playing our first ever gigs there. Thinking we could have even more fun, we delved into the International side of things with Calyx's first visit to Sydney in 2005. We then went on to bring back Protein to The Clare, and later ran Suck It Up, which combined Drum n Bass with the 'fresh new' sound of Dubstep. Mad Cow, Dazed+Flawlezz and others all got involved with putting on some varied and interesting events. Green Beats over the summers, Internationals when theyre good enough, and our (almost) monthly's at the Sly Fox, all show our commitment to quality music of all genres, and showcasing some of Sydney's best musical talent for free, or cheap.
