PreSonus Studio One Pro

Post by tehnik » Fri Sep 11, 2009 8:45 pm

just wanted to let anyone know about new great DAW

ever wanted Logic 8-like app for PC? now you have it.

it's great, with VST(i) 2/3 support, easy routing incl. sidechaining support, not to mention great pack of bundled plugins (especially fx)

it's reasonably priced with great support (eg on the PreSonus forums)

try it:

http://www.presonus.com/products/Softwa ... twareId=11

Image

it supports all of the current technologies including ASIO/VSTi [as mentioned before]/ReWire/MIDI etc, and comes with probably the best time stretching algorithm atm - Elastique Pro

and no - I'm not PreSonus employee

Seen it for around £250-£300 online, it was set at $499US when it first came out. UK distro on their site is listed as:

 Not like Reason, that is actually a good thing.

I saw this, looks pretty tits but I think it comes around at the wrong time, everyone seems to be pretty happy with the DAW they are using. At the moment I can't imagine using anything other than Ableton so I'll just say hey that looks cool and move along.

I don't like Reason cause it's very limited, closed environment.

Ableton is quality stuff, everybody knows that, but although it's capable of being used to write music, it's main purpose is to play music you already did live. It's not as handy in terms of writing a tune as it could be.

And here is the place for S1 - due to drag&drop approach and overall simplicity of the app, it's just a matter of minutes and core of the song is set up.

I really like the workflow, also built-in fx's are really great and easy to use, however built in synth/samplers could be more feature-rich.

Anyway - it took about an hour of messing with it to convince me that this is right DAW for me. Maybe because I had an opportunity to work on Logic 8 for some time, which i loved, and this is being so similar? Yep, I guess so :)

And all this being only at the 1.0 version atm!

Does anyone here know how to manually delete/uninstall/remove Studio One Demo and all of its hidden files and folders from Mac OS 10.5.5? :u:

For this, get a program called AppZapper. Drag & Drop the App into it, and it will delete the App and all of it's Library files through-out your Mac. Handy little program.

As for Studio One, got messing around with it yesterday. Think it's great and will probably get it. I have Ableton 8 at the moment, which I'll ReWire no doubt.

What is the difference between cubase and studio one?

How does studio one handle plugin delay compensation?

I think I heard that Studio One was developed by some ex-Steinberg developers. It could potentially evolve into a pretty great DAW. There are certainly a lot of opinions on it over on GeatSlutz. 30 pages worth. There was no way I was going to read all of them but it sounds like the company are open to suggestions on new developments.

Yeah, it's developed by ex-Steinberg guys. Apparently the created/lead developer/whatever of Nuendo is on-board for the Studio One project.

One of the PreSonus reps is on the Gearslutz forum (Attila or something) and has been answering questions and taking feedback.

Sold on this for sure. What are the PreSonus audio interfaces like?

I tried studio one out, it was pretty wonky. Beta style.
