only runs 100$ too worth every penny
mod matrix takes a lil bit to get used to but it's pretty straight forward once you do

Massive vs Albino

Post by chilpillwill » Wed Sep 16, 2009 4:41 pm

I am now getting a z3ta+ demo to try it out, looks like it could be good.

My opinion on the massive vs albino debate:

I support massive, I think albino can probably do more but really prefer massive's interface - it's quick and easy to use. My main preference of massive's interface over albino is that you cant seem to type values into albino, you have to play around with the irritating little knobs until you get the right number. (If there is a way to type in albino, please let me know in a PM, thanks!)

I don't.....yet :). I've heard so many great things about it for years and still haven't even tried the demo. As z3ta is clearly a classic by now, I really should purchase a copy. learn it and put out a new, niche-genre bank for it. There are enough Trance banks out there from what I understand, so a Dubstep set should fill the remaining void quite nicely.

Trance banks are quite popular and might still sell better despite all the bloat in that area, but sounds for that genre do tend to lock you into conforming to certain idioms, whereas Dubstep and IDM are much, much more free, IMHO.

Back on topic...my personal choice would be Massive. The workflow is much more immediate to me and I just happen to like the sonic character of Massive better personally. Plus Massive is by far a better choice for glitch type sound effects and more exotic atmosheres/noisebeds.

I had problems automating the LFO sync on massive when I tried the demo, didnt get into the deeper aspect of the lfo as I'm aware that there is a work-a-round.

been using albino since its out-set and it finds its way into most tracks!

amazing LFO's too...

That, imo, is the only real let down of massive for dubstep production. Tbh, it is an issue for many other genres but dubstep especially

I prefer Albino 3 to Massive myself, but i do like alot of other VSTis i have better than both of these.

i personally like them both...
it's really just about how you use them.
you really have to experiment and just mess with all the knobs.

i def. started using massive more for my wobs now that i can sync automate.

i guess i might start to like Albino as soon as i discover what the fuck is going on under this stupid GUI, Massive is pretty straightforward, but yeah after listening to some presets i have to say Albino's deep basses sound really dope
