DJ HELP??
So i've been really interested in and wanting to start Djing for a little while now (maybe the past two years?) but have never done anything about it..
Ive recently acquired DSS DJ 5.6 (figured mixing mp3s would be a cheaper alternative to forking out a lot on vinyl and decks ect) and started to play around but literally to the extent of using the crossfader with my mouse.. :/ I was just wondering if any people out there who mix with mp3s and could give me advice on additional outboard equpiment they use like mixers, how they set it all up and general stuff like that?
im not asking how do you mix but more on advice on equipment...
would be so much appreciated
sorry if this sounds completely rediculous...

hi mate, im not familiar with DSS but i would recommend buying traktor pro and possibly investing in a midi controller with a crossfader such as the novation nocturn which is what im planning to get once i can afford it
one of my mate uses the nocturn with traktor...
http://us.novationmusic.com/products/mi ... er/nocturn
im sure there are probably better midi controllers out there but i think the novation is very reasonably priced for what you get.
personally i use traktor pro with a "novation 2 in 4 out" soundcard which i find does the job nicely cos i just tend to use the mixer provided in the club/bar and use keyboard shortcuts for traktor. not ideal but does the job until i can get my hands on a midi controller!
novation nio:

not sure this is what you were askin but hope it helps a bit and msg me if u have any more q's!

Re: DJ HELP??
Hi buddy,
thanks a lot for response and sorry for my rather late one. Well i downloaded a demo of traktor pro about two days ago and its real good! im gonna get the full version as soon as i get paid so thanks for pointing that one out for me. Alot more userfriendly than DSS and also far more advanced.
I do a fair bit of production for my music tech course and i actually own a 4in 4out external soundcard which does the job, its an M-Audio Fast track pro
http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/FastTrackPro.html
and also a midi keyboard that has midi controllers on it so im using that as a mixer at the moment till i can also afford maybe a better one, i think possibley thinking this..?

Re: DJ HELP??
personally i would say if "you" want to dj without turntables then you should burn some cds.
its easy to let a computer program match your beats for you. i don't think you will never know how it feels to pull off "sick mixing" in a set if you have no hands on control of whats going on.
a laptop with ableton live or whatever on it cannot make you a dj, it can just dj for you. just my opinion.

We use Numark Total Control and Traktor if were mixing mp3s. Because I've been using vinyl for 12 years I don't use any beat match doodahs but if you learn at your own pace eventually you won't need them anyway.. Total Control doesn't break the bank either..

Re: DJ HELP??
it may not be as instantly gratifying as using a computer program that does it for you, as you will have to practice and learn to dj with serato as opposed to just learning a computer program that knows how to dj for you.blues and haikus wrote:buy 2 turntables and get serato. trust me... worth every penny.
