Shonky wrote:Suppose that this is a bad time to point out that sycophancy actually means a crawler, or a submissive flatterer.
Yes.Horrible time to point it out.:)

From Webster's:

Sycophant:
noun
Etymology: Latin - "sycophanta"[slanderer, swindler]{from Greek "sykophantEs:slanderer, from sykon fig + phainein to show -- more at FANCY
: a servile self-seeking flatterer

And yes,also a parasite.

But the term is correctly applied in my statement. He flatters himself by making unabashed,revelatory,one-sided arguments such as "the majority of women who get into any form of electronic music do it usually because they've been heavily influenced by a man","They'll always be listeners at best","They're yearning for the dream of being carried away by Prince Charming." and "I would only consider putting on a girl if her music genuinely connects with me".He's not just being chauvanistic, but he truly believes deep in his heart that he is better than the rest of us lower life forms - especially women.

That being said,he is "his own yes man".Everything he says, does,or thinks is correct in his mind, and everyone else is wrong. He is the type who disagrees for the sake of self-martyrdom and agrees when it benefits his ego, thus my previous statement about him being a sheep. Now,if that isn't "servile self-seeking flattery",I don't know what is.I just hope he doesn't break his arm patting his own back!

And the parasite/crawler thing kind of applies to him too.
Examples can be found in the multi-page epics based around Skream's every offering on this forum :D
:o Oh no he didn't!

You always be crackin' me up!

this is the second topic about girls on here, and i have to say i've read a few really weird and a bit annoying comments which should be enough to show what way many guys react when they meet girls producing or promoting.

what i can say is that more girls that what u think do these things (or would like to)...moving in the background maybe, but they do quite a lot..

i also read some guy (promo i think) saying that if there's some girls getting into some "undeground" music it's because of a man..
well never happened to me to be honest and i'm not the only one.

fortunately i'm experiencing that there's a lot of guys who are also open enough to appreciate girls producing AND promoting...

i don't even get angry anymore when i hear stupid comments about girls..it will take ages before (if) they stop.

I applaud every girl electronic music composer and I look for more but the fact is there are very few. Its sad that my contra opinion cannot be tolerated.

As the Shonky/ Richard Pryor fella said:
Got an album of hers [DJ Rap] from the 90's and I don't think she even produced the majority of it (think Grooverider does the same before anyone kicks off).
As far as I know most dance music producers have limited technical skills and rely on engineers to actually finish off their work. But I think it's fair to say that even though DJ Rap & Grooverider may not have been given full producer credit on the sleevenotes, they still were the guiding force behind those records. Goldie's albums are executively produced by Rob Playford (2 Bad Mice/ DJ Timecode off GTA Liberty City), and Goldie is a genius at fucking around with computers so this whole thing about people not 'producing' tracks is a complicated subject. Production itself is complicated. It seems like the only way you could ever master it would be to study it from GCSE level, move up to A-Levels, Degrees, Masters Degree, PHD... and still never understand it. That's why we need engineers, and the cheeky fuckers know how skilled they are and that's why they charge so much!

Narcossist wrote: If that original post was just spam for a half baked, self-concerned article [mate it reads like a diary entry] next time just link to it. I can see one sentence in the piece of relevance to this thread. If people aren't commenting its probably because you didn't inspire them to do so

Actually the topic (not by me) started off as a question about the average age of people on the site. I thought maybe it would be more interesting if we asked how many girls were on the site, then making a new topic where I began by praising girls in the scene, which only seemed to give people the wrong idea and piss them off and so naturally now I wish I hadn't done it as I have made an issue out of something which isn't an issue (if you see what I mean).

But, as the topic started rolling, I then decided to shamelessly promote an article I had earlier posted up and was selfish and wanted more people to read. So it got fuck all replies: I can live with that. Yes, it is irrelivant to this Girls Girls Girls thread, and as it it being like a diary- now and again you will see music articles written in first person (ie. Martin Clark & Georgina often do so with their club reviews). Maybe next time I do something it won't be in the same style

PS: SORRY IF I PISSED OFF KEN & RYAN (not sure if you took offence or not), BUT IT WAS JUST A JOKE

Also: Imagine if Promo had a photo of his face on this site and was then seen in 'the real world'. He would be lynched by yous lot! [/quote]

ez j_j!

however promo what can i tell u...?
thing is, im aware that there's many girls who "motivate" guys to have certain opinions, but that's more a sort of vicious circle...because many girls just accept being treated as if they weren't good for anything technological - like also using softwares, making beats, etc etc...so they just don't do it..i know it's a bit of a commonplace but it's true...

also true is that released male producers are far more than female released producers -but as i said, there's more girls producing around than what you think and there's stuff coming up...

i hope to hear about more girls as well..

-now natasha is making some wikked beats and i remember hearing some good tunes by tonian..-

you know you were saying you wanted an outlet for yr writing and 'if not here then where?' - get a blog man. personalised, subjective stuff is perfect for the format. srsly stick at it, i think the more people write about music the better. no-one is compelled to read, but greater participation in the blogosphere is only gonna drive the levels up.

blog

Post by owengriffiths » Mon Dec 04, 2006 4:11 pm

You know you are really fucking right there, but why should a blog site be just a personal thing, there should be one where several people contribute to it, lightening the load as such. I plan to set up a site like this after Xmas, cause it would be good for the scene. I know the new Getdarker.com is trying to do something similar but I feel like I need to go out on this on my own. But at the moment, as far as I'm concerned there's too many personal blogs with not enough content.

So sorry if I've been inundating you with 500 word posts or anything but that's just my style!
