More than agree!uncle bill wrote:People who think Eminem is a "poet", as opposed to someone capable of talking about himself in words that rhyme with each other. He's done some decent tunes but he's hardly Dylan Thomas is he?
To be fair, most of the people who make this mistake work for The Guardian.
Still, If you really want poets who make music listen to Leonard Cohen or Gil Scott Heron.
I have to say I still love the slim shady and marshall mathers lp's, don't think much of the rest of his stuff but still really like those two albums.uncle bill wrote:People who think Eminem is a "poet", as opposed to someone capable of talking about himself in words that rhyme with each other. I'm not dismissing his music at all. I just think people like that are put on a pedestal by the media, mainly because journalists can't deal with the simplicity of people buying records because they're funny or touching and good to dance to. I could say the same thing about Mike Skinner or The Arctic Monkeys. They always have to try and make it out to be more than that.bandshell wrote:I have to say I still love the slim shady and marshall mathers lp's, don't think much of the rest of his stuff but still really like those two albums.uncle bill wrote:People who think Eminem is a "poet", as opposed to someone capable of talking about himself in words that rhyme with each other. Never saw him as a poet though.

Strictly speaking they aren't vocoders. the effect made famous by the cher song and the same effect that is being used to death in a thousand RnB/HipHop/Dance Hall tunes is actually a piece of soft ware called Auto Tune.bass hertz wrote:fucking vo-coders. cheesy ass r 'n b with vocoders. damn you Cher for bringing that crap back.

yea. to me it sounds like a drunk with phlegm stuck in throat trying to talk through a fan like C3P0. then when the lyrics have "pop champage" and "make it rain" it just makes me punch a hole in the wall. 99.5% of ALL music I have heard is complete garbage. Even in dubstep I think 50% of what I heard is garbage. Dont get me wrong... I know the difference between bad music, and having an opinion/taste/what resonates in me.metalboxproducts wrote:Strictly speaking they aren't vocoders. the effect made famous by the cher song and the same effect that is being used to death in a thousand RnB/HipHop/Dance Hall tunes is actually a piece of soft ware called Auto Tune.bass hertz wrote:fucking vo-coders. cheesy ass r 'n b with vocoders. damn you Cher for bringing that crap back.

I like Pop Champagne more than 50% of the dubstep I've heard. Auto-tune or not, it's got a catchy beat.bass hertz wrote:yea. to me it sounds like a drunk with phlegm stuck in throat trying to talk through a fan like C3P0. then when the lyrics have "pop champage" and "make it rain" it just makes me punch a hole in the wall. 99.5% of ALL music I have heard is complete garbage.
