d.i.y. midi controller

Post by wayoftheworld » Sun Sep 27, 2009 3:15 am

right so i'm looking to possibly make a diy midi controller. i've found a few things on google about this but wanted to see if any of you guys have done this sorta thing? if so, what are you using and how easy was it to convert to midi controller?

i'm using ableton live so it would be cool to have something with lotsa buttons to trigger clips. i did happen to come across a link on how to use a gamepad video game controller as midi controller using a max/msp patch -- the controller itself looks like a generic playstation controller an has those dual joysticks which would be pretty cool for doing x/y stuff. any experience with video game controllers would be much appreciated since it probably wouldn't be too cost worthy to do..

any one know if its possible to turn a cheap casio keyboard into a midi controller?

any links/recommendations are much appreciated

peace

Was just watching some diy midi controller for ableton porn on utub and what they said was that the controller transmits hid on the usb buss, and u need an application to turn hid to midi that is usable by ableton.

NE one use Bome's?

There's a program called Joy2Midi that converts any joystick/gamepad into midi...it can be SLIGHTLY tricky to use at first, but the options available for setup are pretty decent. You might need MidiYoke also with it.
