I don't think it's possible to make "the shittest speakers" sound great in your room, but your room does sound like a nightmare acoustic, and yeh there are some really simple things you could do to improve this.

All you need is to build some MDF frames to fit your corners, and probably one on each wall surface, and use high density rock wool in the corners, and the lowest density on your walls, cover with fabric and oila, a very crude but often very effective way to calm your reflections and absorb a bit of bass.

There are about 50000 articles explaining this online a lot better than me.. I'd love to know if anyone has a laymans terms one I can bookmark and send to clients!

I need to build some more bass traps, maybe I'll do a run through of how I did it when I do!
