The Blair Witch Project

Post by 86. » Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:43 pm

bunch of movie threads so one more won't hurt.

I watched this again for the first time in years two days ago. When I first saw it it was borderline womp womp. But watching it again....damn that's some trippy shit. I suppose it's not "scary" like many traditional horror movies, I don't know how much of a horror movie I'd call it.

But I think the way they start off naively prancing into the forest looking for a witch for a film project, and end up basically slipping into insanity and dying, is brilliant.

serious progression in that movie.

reading a bit now online, apparently it was received better than I thought. anyway, anyone bothered to watch this shit? thoughts?

I thought it was utter balls. A glorified youtube video from the pre-youtube era.

hahaha yeah the second one was trash, though it had some entertaining moments imo

the budget for the first one was something like $200 000

one of the actors was paid $500 originally

it kinda is trippy, it's weird...I dunno...maybe because I'm never frightened by "horror" movies that outright try to be scary, that I'm entertained by movies where they straight up and purposefully have no "scary" scenes at all - and TBWP is pretty much the only movie like that. most are "distorted and strange faces combined with surprise shit jumping out in the corner when you 'least expect it'" type shit

yeah thats probably it lol.

when i saw it first time got so bored i wanted to make out with my girl, but she was really turned off by the shit there so it all became one of my worst movie experiences
and i'm proud to be quite intuitive about what movies to spend my time on, but that one was maaaasssive fail for me!

i think its a good watch

hearing kids voices and giggling outside your tent in the night is one of the most fucked things i can think of.

when it was first released it was pushed as real film found and edited. i knew dudes who couldnt sleep after seeing it.

The movie reminded me of Venetian Snares' track All the Children are Dead which is basically the most fucked up distorted freak song I know of. Mutilated child carcasses floating atop of the water. Fuck. And hurrah.

Blair Witch Project was great in the cinema... saw it on release day after all the hype around it and I swear there were people in there that weren't sure if it was real or not. I think people underestimate quite how fucking weird it was watching a shakycam movie for one of the first times.... now that there's been so many rip offs and piss takes it looks a bit cliched, but in the same way that all films that have been copied tend to.

I might watch it tonight actually... really in the mood for it.

I never really liked it, the whole screaming and crying at nothing thing got on my nerves pretty quick. And yeah the sequels were jokes lol.

exactly, they had a fake web site with 'quotes' from local police, press etc. IIRC it was marketed to the US as a genuine video that was found and then shown in cinemas. I imagine watching the movie believing you were seeing real footage would fuck with you a bit.

Good point, the marketing for it was so good.
