Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Yeah, the step sequencer in fl just doesn't make sense. It makes sense in of it's self, as a step sequencer, but as the very center of the intersection between all elements of the application, no.
I just like always being able to see the mixer, the playlist and the piano roll in fl, rather than flipping around.
I put my second monitor on top of the first so that I can use a sufficiently large piano roll, and still see the mixer, at least. But then to adjust controls on an instrument, u gotta shift tab, tweak a knob, shift tab back, draw some notes, on and on. Anyways. It's all good.

Holy fuck, the Operator sine wave is instant perfect sub... why the fuck didn't I just do that before?!

damn. just found out that you could use scenes to trigger different bpms and time signatures.
just type the tempo number with the word bpm into a scene and voila.
same for time signatures. just type in 4/4 or whatever into a scene. also, you can change both the tempo and time sig for each scene.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
hey everybody.. i got a problem taht is really starting to piss me off...
after producing a tune, and premastering it, it sounds fuckin great on my studiomonitors. lot of pressure. great (sub)bass and all in all it sounds quite well mixed up.
but then, after converting it into wav (sampling rate up to 48000 and 32 bit. so really high quality) it sounds somehow shitty, pressure's gone, and sometimes I have the fealing that it sounds slightly ''shifted'')
so how do i get the pressure also on the damn wav?
thank you i advance guys,
VV

since you didn't mention it im just going to assume that you are pushing your levels too hotvulvavibration wrote:hey everybody.. i got a problem taht is really starting to piss me off...

live has a 64 bit summing engine so headroom should never be a problem
but there is a meter after every device chain, if you are pushing into the red on one but the next device lowers the volume, and you do this several times through out, you will get audio degradation because you are constantly pushing into gain and back down again etc etc
but that should be audible from the start.
you dont need to be exporting at 32 bit....even at 16 it should sound fine, i dunno what to say other than you might be doing something terribly wrong in the mixing process
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
humm...
i really take care tht it doesnt push on to the red-zone.
(in the compressors it does go up to that zone, may this limit the sound?)

the point I was trying to make is that you can push it into the red without being in the red on the main mixer channelvulvavibration wrote:humm...

watch the meters before and after effect units, youll see what I mean
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Try and export to 16 bit 44.1 khz. See if you keep the pressure.
When you listen to the wave, how are u listening to it?
And at a bare minimum make sure that you listening to the project and the rendered wave at the same volume.
Do u have anything on the master?

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
OK - this is a totally "late to the party" type revelation...
...but I can't believe I have been using Ableton for as long as I have, yet hadn't used the Freeze Track function until this weekend.
What can I say - I never had the need until now cos I have it drilled into into my brain to be efficient with my processing/RAM needs. This weekend I couldn't be bothered to be efficient and I decided to try out this Freeze Track function all the kids are talking about. Holy Shit.
[[EDIT: It should be noted that I learned to produce beats in 1999 on Apple G3's with 64 MB ram... (there was one in the studio with 256 ram, which is why I did so much work after 2am... so I could grab it). And I am glad - learning with limitations is more of a gift in the long run than a hindrance. I can't even imagine what the OG's, who used to do shit on 2 second samplers with 3 hz processing, must've experienced the first time they switched to a computer.]]

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
You know that after you freeze you can drag to an empty track and bounce it right away, yeah?
Cheers,
Jason

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
thats because when you freeze it, its already rendered in temporary memory... genius really...Disco Nutter wrote:You know that after you freeze you can drag to an empty track and bounce it right away, yeah?

Don't see how it's destructive when you can keep your original track?

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
i mean normally you can't apply effects to the actually waveform without resamplingDisco Nutter wrote:Don't see how it's destructive when you can keep your original track?
but this way you load up your channel with effects hit freeze and BAM your in adobe audtion 3000

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Hello!
a quick question. I'm using operator for the sub....something that sounds like a quiet kick gets introduced at the beginning of the note, and also at random parts on the bassline.
I tried switching between texture, tone etc algorithms thinking that would help. it didnt (at least not 100%).
so does the issue have to do with ADSR and such (i'm just thinking this right now).
I wouldn't mind, because a lot of times these little quiet kick sounding pops are on time with the kick and also the tracks a bit busy so it drowns it out...but during sections where it's just the bassline and drums playing for example...it's noticeable.
I'd like to know what's the issue....although I kinda like it tbh lol

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
You've got gremlins bro.
This could be anything. It could be compressors popping off, plain old clipping, problems with your monitors.
I think you're gonna have to be more scientific about this. Start with the sub, play that, all the way through, get anything?
Start adding elements one by one until you hear the problem. Somewhere between the sub and where you start hearing the problem lies the answer. Good luck, post back your results.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
i have done a subbass on some plugin, somehow i can't turn it mono in the plugin.
is there something i can put into the rack to turn it mono. it sounds really bad if it vibrates just on one side...

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
you could export it and in the "export as" window just click 'convert to mono'.vulvavibration wrote:i have done a subbass on some plugin, somehow i can't turn it mono in the plugin.

another option is using the ableton stereo imager. I can't remember what it's called. but you can make the bass mono with that.
