I thought since everything is going digital FM had become obsolete to big companies? emergency services no longer use it either so thats another big player out the way.

What is actually the deal with pirate stations using FM now days? who is policing it?
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Ofcom are, luckily they are not as on the case as the DTI were, as they are less well funded in that department.
Its still illegal to broadcast without a licence, and if you cause interference to legal stations or get alot of complaints they are far more likely to come and take you off air. If you make the effort the choose your location and frequency wisely, run safe, tested equipment, and act in a professional manner on air you don't seem to attract as much attention. londons a mare tho, too many stations, not enough frequencies, too many cowboys
makes it hot for everyone down there

Well I wont say any names but there is a station local to me who have been broadcasting very close to 100fm for months now and they have not heard anything from anyone lol. I thought Ofcom did not give a shit unless people were being offensive on air. I thought the DTI was no more?

you're right DTI is no more.

ofcom do give a shit regardless of language on air unfortunately.

they seem to hit stations for three reasons. either they know about the station and they wait until the start of the new budget year to hit it (march / april sort of time). or the station is is committing other criminal activities as part of their install - i.e. tapping elelctricity, leaving unsafe installs or breaking and entering to get to roofs. or they are acting off a direct complaint i.e. a radio two listener is hearing bleed through from a pirate.

they're far less pro-active than the DTI it seems, tend to mobilise themselves from direct complaints pretty quick though.

i stated DTI were no more hence "Ofcom are not as on the case as the DTI were" and "if you make the effort the choose your location and frequency wisely, run safe, tested equipment, and act in a professional manner on air you don't seem to attract as much attention"

i must word things really badly or something? :|
