The Panda as an example (and WWF logo) seems like a stupid animal that has gone down an evolutionary dead end- they dont breed and only eat one specific type of food that their stomachs are not even adapted to digest well, they cant adapt to any change. - surely they deserve to die out and its just humans being sentimental to spend any effort in saving them.

90% of all animals that had ever lived on Earth became extinct (the vast majority before humans were ever around). If its a well adapted animal then it will deal with humans and probably live on long after we are all gone.

Are u serious or are u just trying to wind up nature loving types? If you are, you've succeeded. Pandas, tigers etc were getting on fine before humans came along. They are endangered now because their habitats are being destroyed by people. In my opinion, humanity has a responsibility to protect species that we have driven to the brink of extinction. That's the reason why WWF and similar organisations are trying to protect pandas. Mind you, it's debatable whether it's OK to spend a lot of money, time and effort saving pandas while about 30,000 children are dying every day from easily preventable diseases. I think this is my most serious post on this forum so far, just in case you were wondering

you are right tho, how do you justify saving animals when we cant even save ourselves..

It's true, humanity isn't the only cause of extinctions. All species go extinct sooner or later...

christ i didn't know about this programme. horrible.

adds an unpleasant twist to ideas of the evolution of species. what the hell would darwin make of it?

I couldn't watch this tripe, but the five minutes I did endure involved Anneka Rice and gushing over some tranquillised polar bears. "Too much tranquilliser could kill the bears" she gasped excitedly "not enough and they'll wake up and kill us". That would have been my kind of happy ending. Unfortunately, they didn't.

I'm so grateful I rarely watch TV. This kind of shite doesn't surprise me. BUt then the general public and the media that feed each other doesn't either.

only channels worth watching really are channel4 and bbc 2. when they are good they are spot on. wish they'd bring 4later back. oh well. I'm guessing the aformentioned tripe was a cutting edge itv show.
