depends on what the person u r sending it to asks for. most ppl specify how they r (and r not) willing 2 accept demos (check their websites, and email em to ask if they dont state a preference). and tbh most ppl dont like either of these options anymore, but instead want a link to somewhere online they can listen to the tracks (such as soundcloud). jamming ppls email bandwith with attached mp3s is rarely appreciated.

i personally wouldnt send out WAV, others may do tho.
thierry_le_dj wrote: and who would you normally send it too?
who i would send it to is not likely to be the same person u would send it to. and really, if you dont know the answer to this question yrself i'm not really sure why u want to send a demo out at all in the first place.

be extremely, extremely selective in what you send out. don't send finished ideas, don't send tunes that YOU YOURSELF wouldn't play out (we all have those), unless you have a network of folks that would be into it.

Was talking about this with one of the grandaddy's of the dubstep scene last week. He said, straight up, if you send me a tune and it sucks-- i'm blocking you on AIM. he gets too much garbage. don't be that person! Run some quality control, make sure you're sending tunes you really believe in.

also, send the right kind of tunes to the right label. don't send metallic wobblers to deep medi, and don't send ambient-with-no-drums to boka, etc.

just don't until it's ran the gauntlet of your ears, dj test, and playing out test

oh, and-- don't send more than a couple-- maybe THREE--tunes to folks until you have a relationship with them and they actually want to hear 5 tunes from you at a time.

truth i used to leave my aim on auto all the time, and would get sent like 10 tunes from some random stranger without so much as a hello
then one week later they started asking me what i thought of their tunes

what about one?

to be honest i don't want compromise a connection if they didn't like track 2 or 3

i know "put yr best shit first" and all that but is one tune enough?

with my style its also impossible to do the play out test unless i had a group of people in a control room with headphones

perhaps if I gave each person a joint before they stepped into the control room.

Good advice here so far. Best advice I can give is dont be annoying. The are certain people I refuse to work with simply because they annoy the shit out me. Almost to the point of stalking on aim, facebook, here, etc. Some people recomend following up, I spose that is ok sometimes I forget to listen or something but in general it is a dont call me Ill call you situation. If your tune is sick believe me Ill find you. I like full 320s too nothing else I will bother with, the main reason is is I dont make much money at this one of the perks is getting dubs to play out.

I would, and not just to get business, always get some kinda mastering done on your tunes.

It can make the difference between someone wacking it on a CD on the way to the club/radio and playing it out.. and that's when people get a response/build confidence in tunes.

Is it a better idea to use soundcloud or email when given the option? I understand that soundcloud is convenient, but I can't help but feel that it's a little impersonal.
