As an artist if someone's gonna cut a dub i would like them to ask me.

Same if they're gonna put it in a promo mix i'd like them to inform me (if it's a 320 I've given away) just so I know.

I'm not bothered if they don't tell me but I would prefer if they did!

CDs are cack. the game's called Dubstep, not Tossy-Little-Tesco-Own-Brand-CDR-with-some crapshite-MP3s-that-sound-like-the-final death-fart-of-a-dying-vole-step.
what happens if the source for vinyl mastering is on a cd a lol?

(it usually is)

and the brand of cdr is irrelevant...they are all the same...a clean legal wav is my favourite overall medium of owning a tune....vinyl is in theory better but very few people have the decks or speakers to hear the difference....the process of mastering a tune for vinyl means it has a different character to the tune on the cd...this does not mean vinyl sounds better...it has a higher overall resolution but no-one actually hears this

I've been wondering this for a while as I have a few tunes that I've bought that I can't find on vinyl for love nor money. Couple of questions (sorry if they've been aswered and I've missed it)...

1) If the tune IS (was) out on vinyl but only had a small pressing and is now unavailable, having looked on ebay/discogs etc for second hand copies, is it OK to get it pressed from a legally bought file? I imagine it really depends on what the artists says when you ask them? Just wondering if people have had experience with this problem before and artists saying, "No, find a vinyl copy".

2) Do cutting houses take any audio format? I have a lot of tunes on FLAC but most people talk about WAVs when getting tunes presses. Also does it matter that the tunes are mastered already? Was under the impression that most tunes that go to be pressed are mastered at the pressing stage, not before.

Excuse any ignorance. I'm new to the DJ/music malarky. :D

Cheers

So if the guy was going to burn the tune onto a cd to play it out, you would like him to ask it too.
Because it's the same thing actually.
